News from the Nest
Week of October 19, 2026

Happy Sunday Falcon Families,
Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope everyone enjoyed the added time with family. We are excited to welcome our Falcons back to campus as we begin the second marking period. The first nine weeks flew by, and I am incredibly proud of the progress our students have made. As we begin this next chapter, we want to build on that momentum and continue encouraging our students to demonstrate Growth, Relationships, Integrity, and Teamwork in everything they do.
Before the break, we had a wonderful Hispanic Heritage Celebration! It was exciting to see our students, families, and staff come together to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of our Hispanic community. A special thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the evening such a memorable experience. Events like these remind us how fortunate we are to have such a diverse and supportive Falcon family!
As we begin the second marking period, this is a great opportunity for students to set new academic goals and reflect on their progress. We encourage families to review first marking period grades with their students, celebrate their successes, and discuss areas where they can continue to grow. Regular attendance, arriving to class on time, completing assignments, and asking for help when needed are all important habits that contribute to academic success.
Our Capturing Kids' Hearts character trait for October is Self-Direct, which connects closely to our GRIT value of Integrity. We are encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, make responsible decisions, and recognize that their daily choices have a direct impact on their success. We hope you will reinforce these conversations at home by encouraging your student to set goals, manage responsibilities, and take pride in their accomplishments.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We are looking forward to a fantastic second marking period filled with learning, growth, and opportunities for our Falcons to shine!
With Falcon Pride,
Christina Harris

Navigating a Busy & Bright Second Nine Weeks!
Python
Hello Families,
As we step into the second nine-weeks marking period, our school community is entering one of the most vibrant, engaging, and fast-paced stretches of the school year! This time of year brings an incredible mix of academic milestones, community traditions, and important wellness themes.
As your school counselors, we want to partner with you to help our students stay balanced, focused, and feeling supported through all the excitement ahead. Here is a look at what’s on the calendar and how we can work together to help your child thrive.
Celebrating Growth & Success: First 9-Weeks Honor Roll
What to Expect: During in this grading period, we will proudly recognize the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our students during our First 9-Weeks Honor Roll Ceremony. An email invitation will be sent to families of students who qualify.
Counselor’s Tip: Whether or not your child’s name is called, use this moment to celebrate effort and growth. Praise the specific strategies that led to their success (like organization, asking questions, or studying consistently). If they are feeling discouraged, remind them that growth is a journey and every nine weeks is a fresh start to set new personal goals!
October Focus: Red Ribbon Week & Fall Fun
Red Ribbon Week: This month, we observe Red Ribbon Week, focusing on healthy choices, personal safety, and building the inner strength to say "no" to negative influences and "yes" to our goals and well-being.
At-Home Connection: Talk with your child about what it means to be a good friend, how to handle peer pressure, and the importance of taking care of their mind and body.
STUCO Sponsored Trunk or Treat – October 30 at 5:30 PM:
Get your costumes ready! Join us for our community Trunk or Treat event on October 30th at 5:30 PM. It’s a wonderful, safe way for families to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the autumn season together!
Finding Balance Through the Holiday Seasons
As we move from fall festivities into Thanksgiving Break and eventually Christmas / Holiday Break, changes in routine and excitement can sometimes bring big emotions, fatigue, or stress for children (and adults!).
Maintaining Routines: Predictability helps children feel secure. Try to keep consistent bedtimes and morning routines even when special events fill up the calendar.
Practicing Gratitude (Thanksgiving Break): Use the holiday break to pause and reflect. Encourage family members to share what they are grateful for—a simple habit that builds emotional resilience and positive mental health.
Rest and Recharge (Christmas Break): The holiday break is a vital time to unplug, rest, and spend quality time together. Encourage plenty of downtime so students return refreshed for the second half of the year.
A Note From Your Counselors
Our doors are always open to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. If you ever have concerns about your student's adjustment, academic stress, or emotional well-being during this busy season, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Wishing your family a joyful, healthy, and successful second nine weeks!
Warmly,
AMMS Counselors
Athletics Information
We are excited to begin our after-school athletic events this week! Please remember that KISD’s clear bag policy will be in effect for all games, and tickets must be purchased online in advance. There will be no cash taken at the door/gate and there will not be devices for anyone to use to purchase at the gate. Please let grandparents, aunts, uncles and all other family members know this is the new process.
When attending, we ask that all families model the Texas Way by being positive and supportive of our student-athletes. Our role as fans is to encourage our team, not put down the other team or use inappropriate language or behavior. Texas passed a law last year that requires us to remove spectators immediately if a game official requires it--there will be no warnings. Please help us to make our events a positive experience for all!
Together, we can create a spirited and respectful environment that makes every game a great experience for students, families, and our community.

General Updates & Reminders:
- All students should have received their ID cards. Please help to ensure that they have it and are wearing it appropriately every day. Having their IDs helps to improve the timing for riding the bus and for getting their lunch. If your student did not receive an ID, please have them stop by the AP office to let them know.
- All students have also been issued a YONDR pouch and should be placing their electronic devices inside the pouch during morning entry. Electronic devices should not be seen nor heard at any time during the school day.
- One of the most important habits we can help our students develop is being where they need to be, when they need to be there, and ready to learn. Please remind your student of the importance of arriving to class on time—every minute of instruction matters!
- Students are expected to be in dress code when they arrive on campus and remain in dress code throughout the school day.
- We can only accept food deliveries for students from a parent/guardian or contact listed on the student's account.
As always, we are here to help and support you and your student in every way possible. Please reach out to us with any concerns or use the online reporter method at the following link should you have a safety concern: https:/ /forms.killeenisd.org/Forms/BullyReporter
