Coupeville Schools are Strong!
February is Kindness Month!
Dear Coupeville School District Families,
As we move into February, traditionally known as the Month of Kindness, I am touched by the incredible spirit of support and care that defines our school community. The strength of Coupeville Schools has always been rooted in the deep connections between our students, staff, families, and community members.
Every day, I witness countless acts of kindness throughout our buildings – from students supporting their peers, to teachers going above and beyond to ensure every child feels seen and valued, to our community members consistently showing up to support our schools. These relationships form the foundation of successful learning environments where students can thrive.
Our staff continues to prioritize creating spaces where every student feels they truly belong. Research consistently shows that when students feel connected to their school community, they are more engaged, more confident, and better prepared to learn. The genuine care and dedication shown by our educators, combined with your unwavering community support, makes this possible.
As your superintendent, I am continually inspired by the resilience and adaptability of our school community. Together, we are ensuring that Coupeville Schools remains a place where kindness, learning, and strong relationships flourish. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students' success.
With gratitude,
Shannon Leatherwood, Superintendent

First Food Service Program in Washington!
This school year, Coupeville School District is the first school food service program in Washington State invited to participate in the EatReal Certification program!
EatReal is a non-profit, 3rd party certification program that provides school leaders with a supportive path to transforming their cafeteria menus to offer more healthy, delicious meals. Their team, alongside a community of food system advocates, chefs, and parents, spread the word about the power and viability of serving real, delicious food at school and at home, and advocate for healthier policies and higher food standards.
Our Connected Food Program team is always seeking out new ways to improve our meals and support our student’s learning. It is an exciting partnership we are beginning with this organization, and we will continue to share updates as we move forward! Skills USA Spotlight
This week, three talented students from Coupeville High School put their mechanical skills to the test at the SkillsUSA Motorcycle Service Technology contest! They showcased their expertise in interviewing, identifying parts and tools, precision measuring, electrical work, pre-delivery inspections, rear wheel removal and replacement, valve adjustments, and diagnosing a no-start failure. Max Ohme placed 1st, Nikolas Rogers placed 3rd, and Jayden Little placed 4th. Great job representing CHS!
David Somes earned an impressive 12th place in the SkillsUSA Culinary Contest, showcasing his talent with a gourmet Asian cucumber salad, parmesan lemon-crusted chicken thighs, and an apple and candied walnut salad with feta in a maple Dijon vinaigrette. Alongside his outstanding dishes, he demonstrated knifing skills, chicken butchery, sanitization, and the ability to follow a prescribed menu. Congratulations, David, on this fantastic achievement!
