Mansfield Gifted 2025-2026
Quarter 3
đź—“ Gifted Service
New This Year! Gifted Progress Monitoring
We are excited to share something new this year in our Gifted Program! Families will now receive progress monitoring reports each quarter. These reports will help you stay informed about how your gifted student is progressing toward their goals on the Written Education Plan (WEP).
Progress ratings include:
- 4 – Meeting or exceeding expectations
- 3 – Making progress toward expectations
- 2 – Approaching expectations
- 1 – Not assessed
Please note that Quarter 1 was when the WEP was sent home, so progress ratings may look different for that reporting period.
If you have any questions about your child’s WEP or progress reports, feel free to reach out. We value our partnership with families and look forward to supporting your child’s growth this year!
Gifted Professional Development Reminder
In Ohio, any teacher providing gifted services must complete annual gifted training to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students. Most teachers complete about 15 hours of training each year for the first four years (a total of 60 hours), and then continue with at least 5 hours each year after that. Mansfield has set the expectation at 5 continuing hours annually.
NCOESC professional development opportunities that can be used toward your gifted hours.
You may have hours from another district or building, so please let your gifted corrdinator know if they are missing any of your previous training(s). Always keep track of your own hours of gifted PD just in case! I linked a personal sheet for you to use.

Important Notes for Educators
-
A student can fit into more than one category.
-
Gifted ≠high achieving—some gifted learners may underachieve.
-
Creative thinkers may not always “look” successful in traditional settings but often bring fresh perspectives.
-
Recognizing these differences helps us differentiate instruction, not label students.
Social and Emotional Traits in Gifted Students
Parenting a gifted child can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with unique social and emotional challenges. Gifted children often experience the world more intensely—whether that means asking big questions at an early age, feeling deeply about fairness, or struggling with perfectionism and self-expectations. As parents and guardians, it’s important to remember that these traits are not just part of your child’s learning style, but also their emotional world.
These characteristics are common among gifted learners, and understanding them can help families better support their child’s overall well-being.
