April 2026
A Note From Mrs. Boone
The weeks are flying by! We have a lot happening in the library this month. With upcoming holidays and STAAR testing, we are super busy. Make sure to find some time to read with each other! Last month we had a blast celebrating Dr. Suess' work and learning a little more about the author and illustrator. We also conducted our annual inventory to analyze and account for our Wright collection. Fiesta is coming and to celebrate we are having another book fair! We hope to see everyone there. Have a safe and exciting April and I will see you soon!
STAAR Tips 🌟
You've Got This!⭐
Testing season is here! This is the time of the year that we get to show off by showing what we know! Testing can cause a lot of stress, but here are a few simple tips you can use for the day of the test to help support your child to do their best.
Testing Day
- Healthy Breakfast: Provide a nutritious breakfast with protein to avoid energy crashes.
- Positive Affirmations: Write an encouraging note (e.g., "You've got this!") for their lunchbox or backpack.
- Dress in Layers: Ensure comfort during long hours in a potentially cold classroom.
- Leave Early: Avoid rushing to ensure they arrive on time.
- Remind Them to Breathe: Tell your child that if they feel anxious, they can stop, turn their test over, and take deep breaths.
- Pace Themselves: Remind them that the test is not a race, and they can use the entire school day to finish.
- Plan a Treat: Celebrate their hard work afterwards with a favorite meal or fun activity to look forward to.
Spring Book Fair Is Here!
Our Spring book fair is happening April 13-17th! Just like our fall book fair, the fair will be cashless. Students will only be able to shop with an e-wallet. You can follow the link below to create an e-wallet and share with friends and family if they wish to gift your student with money for the book fair. The fair will accept cash apps and cards as well. If you choose to send a card with your child, please send a note with the amount approved to spend at the fair. If you already created an e-wallet, all you need to do is log into your scholastic site and add money to the wallet for this fair.

Book Fiesta
Book Fiesta! by Pat Mora and illustrated by Rafael López is a vibrant bilingual (English/Spanish) children's book celebrating Children’s Day/Book Day (Día). It encourages a love of reading by showing diverse children reading everywhere—in cars, trains, on elephants, and in submarines.
Bloomin' Tales
This book explores the folktales and history behind several of the most popular wild flowers in Texas. It combines Texas heritage, Native American legends, and botanical facts about seven plants, highlighting their resilience and the stories of the people who settled the land.
Reading Incentives
Books & Bundts
We are entering our final month of Books and Bundts. Teachers have the reading logs for students to fill out. For every 400 minutes read, students can come to the library for a certificate that is good for a free bundlet cake and the Nothing Bundt cakes in City base.
Have a Wonderful and Safe Fiesta!
The Great SA Reading Challenge
This month concludes this challenge. Our 3rd graders have been reading since November to compete with other schools in the city! We received some fun prizes and had a blast along the way.
SORA
SORA is a partnership with San Antonio Public Library making all of the E-books, audiobooks, and a great collection of magazines available to our students, 24-7! The app can be found in your SSO or downloaded on any device and your username and password is the same as your SSO. Check it out, and find your next favorite read.
