A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear LCTC Community,

As we move forward in the school year, I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of consistent attendance. Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses rely heavily on hands-on learning and the development of practical skills. Regular attendance allows students to fully engage in these experiences and gain the valuable skills they need for success. Let’s continue working together to make attendance a top priority.

Next month, we will proudly launch our Community with Character: Students of the Month initiative. Each month, we will focus on a different character trait, and teachers will select students who best embody that quality. These students will be recognized with their photos displayed in our showcase throughout the month. For October, our highlighted trait is RESPECT. We’re excited to celebrate student achievements that go beyond the classroom.

A reminder that Marking Period 1 ends on Friday, October 23rd. This is a great opportunity for students and families to log into Student/Parent Connect and review academic progress to ensure a clear understanding of current standings in each class. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your students' teacher for support.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

With LCTC Pride,

Mrs. Lindsay Gray

Principal

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Building the Foundation: Auto 1 Students Master Essential Shop Tools and Measurements

Auto 1 students are building a strong foundation in automotive technology by learning to identify and properly use the hand tools commonly found throughout the industry. As part of their training, students are gaining an understanding of both American Standard and metric measurement systems, including when and why each is used in automotive applications.

These essential skills serve as the building blocks for future success in the shop and beyond. Students are also discovering the practical connection between classroom concepts and real-world careers by applying math skills to hands-on automotive tasks. Through these experiences, they are developing the technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and confidence needed to continue advancing their automotive education and preparing for careers in the industry.

Hands-On Learning and Career Insights Drive Auto 2 Students Forward

Auto 2 students are making steady progress on their S-10 simulator truck project by continuing to remove unnecessary components and prepare the vehicle for its next phase of development. This week, students also had the opportunity to put their oxy-acetylene torch skills into practice by cutting apart a truck bed that was no longer needed.

Rather than simply disposing of the material, the project became a valuable learning experience. Students gained additional hands-on training with the oxy-acetylene torch while applying the safe and proper techniques they have been learning in the shop. Experiences like these help build the confidence and technical skills essential for success in the automotive industry.

The week also included a special visit from former LCTC student Chris Gregg (Class of 2026), who stopped by before returning to his duties with the United States Marine Corps. Chris shared his experiences after graduation, discussed his journey in the Marines, and talked with students about the many career opportunities available to them. The visit provided valuable insight and inspiration as students begin thinking about their own futures beyond high school.

Thank you, Chris, for taking the time to visit our students and for your service to our country!

BUSINESS LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS BUSINESS LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS

Building Confidence Through Public Speaking

Students in Business Leadership are developing essential public speaking skills through a series of four speech presentations. So far, they have successfully delivered two speeches and are continuing to refine their abilities by focusing on effective eye contact, reducing filler words, and strengthening speech memorization techniques.

Next week, students will take on two additional presentation challenges: an Informative Speech and an Impromptu Speech. Throughout the school year, they will continue to build confidence and communication skills by presenting both individually and in groups on a variety of business-related topics. These experiences help prepare students for success in future educational, professional, and leadership opportunities.

CAREER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CAREER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

From Classroom to Career: Seniors Launch Their Futures

Our high school seniors are off to a great start in their internship experiences! Students are spending time in a wide variety of workplaces, gaining valuable hands-on experience while exploring careers and developing professional skills.

Through their internships, students are learning what it means to be a dependable employee, effective communicator, problem solver, and team member. They are practicing important workplace skills such as professional communication, active listening, time management, initiative, and adaptability.

Beyond learning about a specific career, students are discovering more about themselves—what they enjoy, what they are good at, and what they may want to pursue after graduation. Each internship provides an opportunity to connect classroom learning with the real world.

CONSTRUCTION TRADES CONSTRUCTION TRADES

Building a Strong Foundation in Masonry and Concrete

Construction 1 students are currently working toward earning their OSHA 10-Hour Certification while gaining an introduction to the masonry and concrete industry.

As part of their hands-on training, they are learning how to properly mix concrete and evaluate its consistency by performing slump cone tests.

In the coming weeks, students will expand their skills through lab experiences focused on forming, placing, and finishing concrete flatwork.

These activities provide valuable industry knowledge while helping students develop the technical skills and safety awareness essential for careers in the construction trades.

Construction Trades 2 Students Put Certifications into Action

All Construction Trades 2 students have successfully earned their OSHA 30 Certifications and are now applying their skills through hands-on projects at LCTC. Students are currently learning advanced construction techniques, including the installation of mini-split heating and cooling systems and residential electrical wiring.

In the coming weeks, they will take their training beyond the classroom as they begin a year-long home renovation project within the community. These real-world experiences provide valuable opportunities for students to strengthen their technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and industry readiness.

Criminal Justice Students Rise to the Challenge

Criminal Justice students recently completed the American Firearms Training Safety Certification, building a strong foundation in responsible firearm handling, safety, and decision-making. Students also began working with the MILO simulation system, which provides realistic, scenario-based training designed to develop situational awareness, communication, and sound decision-making in law enforcement situations.

These hands-on experiences give students an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to realistic public safety scenarios while reinforcing the importance of safety, ethics, professionalism, and accountability.

Building Teaching Skills Through Hands-On Preschool Experience

Our Educator Prep students kicked off their Grade Parade with a week at The Early Childhood Center. They spent the week rotating through different classrooms, meeting lots of little learners, helping with activities, and getting a firsthand look at what it’s like to teach preschool.

It was so fun watching our students jump in, interact with the kids, and start figuring out which ages they enjoy working with most. A great first week of Grade Parade! We are excited to keep the Grade Parade going as students explore different grade levels.

New Rules for Students and Their Electronic Devices

LCTC deeply values every single instructional minute. We know a student's learning requires a distraction-free environment, which is why instructional time across all grade levels remains strictly device-free in alignment with Michigan law and district policy.

Here is what you and your student need to know:

  • In-Class Storage: Cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and other electronic devices must be off or silenced. Phones must be placed in designated classroom storage areas, and all other devices kept in backpacks during class time. Regardless of classroom procedure, electronic devices may not be visible or used during class unless specifically authorized by the teacher for instructional purposes.

  • Protecting Class Time: To ensure a disruption-free learning space, please direct urgent family communications through the main office. Students needing to make a phone call home may do so from the office. Phone calls - including FaceTime video calls, and similar communication - are not permitted during the school day during class, or in the hallways or bathrooms.

  • Enforcement: Teachers will partner with students to handle minor issues in the classroom. A student found with a visible or unauthorized electronic device during during instructional time will receive a teacher-assigned detention for the first offense. A second offense will result in a referral to the LCTC principal for further disciplinary action.

  • Exceptions & Liability: Accommodations are made for documented medical needs (e.g., continuous glucose monitors) or admin approval. Students bring devices to school at their own risk; the school is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
