It has been an exciting month for students here at Highlander! Our community continues to show its commitment to ensuring that students are happy, safe, and learning.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, we encourage our families to participate in honoring the rich cultural diversity present in our community. Our Providence Campus, situated on Broad Street, has a rich history that traces back to the 1700s. Its evolution into La Calle Broa’ began in the 1960s, a period marked by the arrival of Latino residents who contributed to the revitalization and ongoing development of this lively neighborhood. We are fortunate to benefit from the unique character and historic contributions that shape our community today.

Afterschool Program Launch

This week marks the beginning of our elementary afterschool program, a vital extension of our students’ learning experience. We have worked diligently to strengthen our partnerships with local community organizations, and we are excited about the enriching opportunities this year will bring. We aim to foster a sense of JOY and exploration both during and after the school day.

Upcoming Celebrations for October

The month of October is shaping up to be a JOYFUL time for learning and fellowship. The month is filled with opportunities for families to engage with the school community. Here are some key upcoming events:

October 10, 2024: Warren Middle/ High School Open House: This is a chance to meet teachers and learn more about the curriculum and extracurricular opportunities available for your children.
October 16, 2024: Reading Night in Providence: Join us for an evening dedicated to fostering a love of reading through fun activities, guest speakers, and book giveaways!
October 28th, 2024- Read to Succeed Celebration: Celebrate our students' love for reading with us! Special awards and recognitions will be given to those who have excelled in their reading journeys.
October 31st, 2024 (4:30- 6pm) Our First Fall Harvest Fest for all students and families to be held at the Providence campus. It will be an engaging day filled with seasonal activities, games, and delicious treats that showcase the joy of the autumn season!

I am excited to see many of you during our events, and am especially excited as we work to plan our Fall Harvest! Stay tuned for more information.

As we enter October, teachers and students are in the groove! Routines and rituals have been established and the students look great!

Development and Community Relations

Highlander received another round of the Mentoring Grant to be used to develop the Highlander Peacemakers in high school.

We will soon start working with the It Gets Better Grant that will help build a school environment that is safe and free from discrimination for all students regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

Family Engagement

We have many fun events planned for the month of October, make sure to check Class Dojo regularly for special announcements.

Saturday, October 26th is our Family Night at the RIFC soccer at Bryant University at 7:30pm against Miami!

It is just $10 per ticket. Less than a movie ticket!

We will all sit together.

Students can join the team as they take the field.
Students and families can take photos with the team mascot.
Students will be able to get player autographs at the end of the game!

And, anyone who wants to can plan a tailgate party before the game!

Thursday, October 31st - Join us for our 1st Harvest Fest at the P VD Campus from 4:30-6:00pm. We will have food vendors, raffles, DJ, activities and give aways. Stay tuned for more details.
