Staff Updates
Weekly Instructional Highlights
Ms.Valiquette's class is implementing the writing process to compose their narratives. Here, we have students completing their brainstorming, drafting, revision, and peer editing before their final draft. The writing process allows for multiple revisions prior to publishing.
Shout-out to Mr. Fink and his students!
For completing their farm dioramas for the CBL project, “Using Colonial Farming to Advise the State Agricultural Commission”!
Students brought their learning to life by creating dioramas that demonstrated the differences among cash crops, subsistence farming, livestock, and livestock feed. Kudos to Mr. Fink and his students for their creativity and hard work!
Below are photos of some of our student farms proudly sharing their creations!
Political Activities and the Prohibited Use of District Resources
The November 3, 2026, General Election is quickly approaching. The ballot will include numerous federal, state, and local contests, including seats on the LAUSD Board of Education, as well as ballot and bond measures.
While every individual has the right to participate in the democratic process, public officials must ensure that public resources are not used to support personal political views. The law, Board Policies, and District guidelines establish clear requirements in this area. Attached are some resources:

Time Off to Vote
California State law allows for employees to take up to two paid hours off at the beginning or end of their workday to vote if they do not have sufficient time outside of their working hours to do so.
Employees who require time off to vote because they do not have sufficient time outside of their regular work schedule should notify their supervisor two working days prior to Election Day (no later than the third working day prior to the day of election) and must complete a certification of absence form indicating the reason for their absence. This time shall be recorded as Miscellaneous Time (MS) following normal payroll procedures.
If an employee requires more than two hours off in order to vote, the additional time will be unpaid.
Parent Updates
Zone of Choice Applications for Parents
Zones of Choice are areas where students have multiple school options in their neighborhood. Instead of having a single assigned school of residence, students living in a Zone have multiple schools to choose from. Families rank these options in order of preference, and then are assigned to a school based on their rankings and the available space at each school.
Parents can sign-in using their Parent Portal username and password or create a new account if they don't have one. Parents can make changes to their application any time before the deadline on Friday, November 6, 2026.
