Greeley Greeting

October 19, 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Greeley Families,
On Friday, our kindergarten students participated in the 43rd Annual Monarch Migration. This beloved tradition has connected generations of Greeley students through curiosity, creativity, and community. This year felt especially meaningful as we heard from former Greeley students who are now experiencing the tradition all over again, this time as parents of their own kindergarten monarchs. What a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections and cherished traditions that make Greeley such a special place.
As we look ahead to parent-teacher conferences, I'm thrilled to share that 96% of our students already have a conference scheduled. If you haven't signed up yet, please remember that the scheduling window closes this Wednesday. We also appreciate families making every effort to schedule during our designated conference days, helping us protect the valuable planning and collaboration time our teachers need on other days. Thank you for your partnership and consideration!
Today, families will also have access to their child's fall benchmarking assessment results through Otus and PowerSchool. While these assessments provide valuable insights into student progress, they are just one piece of the bigger picture of each child as a learner. Conferences offer a wonderful opportunity to celebrate growth, set goals, discuss next steps, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.
There's also exciting news coming out of KW as we prepare for our upcoming Ghost Dance. Our third and fourth graders are helping shape this beloved tradition by sharing their ideas and creativity. This is student voice in action! When students have meaningful opportunities to influence their school experiences, they develop a greater sense of ownership, belonging, and connection to their community. I can't wait to see their ideas come to life!
Finally, I also hope you'll encourage your child to join us in celebrating Unity Week. As we come together across District 36 during National Bullying Prevention Month, we're reminded of the important role each of us plays in creating a community where every child feels safe, valued, and invited to belong. You'll find more details about our daily activities and ways to participate later in this newsletter.
From traditions that connect generations to new opportunities for student voice and belonging, there's so much to celebrate at Greeley!
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,
Lindsay

Related Arts Spotlight/Lighthouse Moment
First through fourth grade students have been hard at work creating, learning, and practicing their Ghost Dance. This year, the third and fourth graders were given the opportunity to work in small groups to create choreography inspired by the lyrics to the song. Students brainstormed ideas, made suggestions, tested their choreography, and fine tuned their moves before presenting their ideas to the class. We then worked together to combine ideas from different classes to create a dance centered around student voice and choice, complete with some surprise props! Students are excited to share what they have created on October 30th! This video features some fourth grade students explaining the part students played in the process.
This experience strongly connects to both of Greeley’s strategic aims by placing student voice, choice, collaboration, and nurturing belonging at the center of learning.
Increasing Opportunities for Students to Have a Voice in Setting Learning Goals
The Ghost Dance project gives students an authentic opportunity to influence their learning and contribute to a shared creative goal. Third and fourth graders worked in small groups to brainstorm ideas, make suggestions, test choreography, and refine their movements based on the song’s lyrics. Students had ownership over the creative process, knowing their ideas could shape the final performance. By combining choreography from different groups and classes, educators demonstrated that student perspectives are valued and that students can work together to achieve a common goal. This experience empowers students to see themselves as active participants in their learning rather than simply following directions.
Creating Authentic Opportunities to Nurture Belonging and Prioritize Student and Staff Wellness
The Ghost Dance project fosters belonging by creating a collaborative environment where students can share ideas, take creative risks, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Working together to combine choreography encourages students to listen to one another, appreciate different perspectives, and recognize the value each person brings to the group. The opportunity to express themselves through movement also provides a joyful, engaging experience that supports creativity, connection, and student well-being. As students prepare to share their work with others, they can build confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment. By intentionally creating space for student choice and collaboration, educators help cultivate a learning environment where students feel seen, valued, and connected.
