Good Evening Mustang Families,

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another great week at McCullough! Remember, we kick things off tomorrow with McCullough Monday, so we encourage all of our Mustangs to show their school spirit and start the week #McCulloughProud! This week will be a four-day week for students, as there will be no school for students on Friday, October 9th, due to Staff Professional Development.

As we move further into October, there are several important updates, reminders, and upcoming events to keep on your radar. Please take a few moments to read this week’s Family Update in its entirety so you don’t miss any important information. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to make every day a great day to be a Mustang!

Week of 10/4 Exploratory Schedule

  • Monday, October 5th: B Day
  • Tuesday, October 6th: A Day

  • Wednesday, October 7th: B Day

  • Thursday, October 8th: A Day

  • Friday, October 9th: Staff Professional Development Day (No School)

McCullough Phone Lines

We continue to experience intermittent issues with our school phone lines. The Colonial School District and Verizon are aware of the issue and are actively working toward a resolution, and we hope to have our phone lines consistently up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you call the school and are unable to reach our Main Office through the regular phone line, please call our temporary number at 302-639-6032. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this issue is resolved.

Back-to-School Skating Party is This Week

The wait is almost over! Our McCullough Back-to-School Skating Party is happening this Wednesday, October 7th, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Christiana Skating Rink! We are looking forward to an evening filled with skating, music, fun, and plenty of Mustang PRIDE.

We hope to see all of our McCullough families come out and join us as we spend time together and celebrate our school community. Bring the family, lace up your skates, and come have some fun with us! Please see the flyer below for additional details.

McCullough Safety Drill This Week

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and prepared school environment, McCullough will conduct our first safety drill of the school year this week. Students and staff will participate in a Hold Drill, during which staff will ensure their rooms are secure and everyone will remain in the classroom or office they are currently in until the hold is lifted. Instruction, meetings, and other activities will continue as normal during the drill.

Practicing these procedures helps ensure that students and staff know what to do if a Hold is ever needed, such as during a medical emergency or another situation that requires hallways and common areas to remain clear. We appreciate our families’ partnership as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our Mustang community.

Shop Talk with the Alpha's

We are excited to kick off McCullough Shop Talk with the Alphas, a mentoring opportunity for our male students in grades 6–8! Our first session will be held on Thursday, October 15th. Families interested in having their student participate should return the permission slip as soon as possible or use the link provided. Please see the information below for additional details!

Help Us Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

As we continue planning our Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly, we would love input from our McCullough families and community! We are looking for a poet, singer, band, musician, artist, or other performer who can help us celebrate and showcase the richness of Hispanic culture, heritage, and traditions.

If you know an individual or group who may be interested or available to participate in our assembly, please use the link below to share your suggestion and contact information. Thank you for helping us create a meaningful and memorable celebration for our Mustangs!

Backpack Program

At McCullough, we are committed to supporting our students both inside and outside of the classroom. Through our Weekend Backpack Program, participating students receive a bag of food items to take home each week to help provide additional support over the weekend. Families who would like their student to participate are encouraged to contact Mr. James Thomas, our Communities In Schools Site Coordinator, at James.Thomas@colonial.k12.de.us or 302-429-4000. Participation is confidential, and our goal is to ensure that every Mustang has the support they need to return to school each week ready to learn and thrive.

Let's have an amazing week as a school community, and remember MUSTANGS RUN TOGETHER!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hyacinth Lewis, Principal

Attendance Update Attendance Update

Every day at McCullough matters! During the month of September, our schoolwide average daily attendance was 93.1%, with our 6th-grade Mustangs leading the way at 94.1%! While we are proud of the progress we are making, our goal is to reach and maintain 95% attendance or higher.

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for working together to prioritize daily attendance. Being at school consistently helps our Mustangs stay connected, engaged, and on track academically. Let’s keep pushing toward 95%—every student, every day!
