Reggie Happenings Biweekly Update
SUPERINTENDENT & PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear GLTS Students, Parents, and Caregivers,
It is hard to believe how quickly this year is flying by! As we close out March and head into the final stretch of the 2025-2026 school year, we want to pause and celebrate the incredible hard work and dedication of our students. Quarter three officially wraps up this Tuesday, March 31st, and quarter four begins on Wednesday, April 1st. We are incredibly proud of all that our students have accomplished so far.
Spring is always an exciting and busy time on campus. From showcasing their creativity in the Talent Show and demonstrating their expertise at the SkillsUSA district competition, to kicking off spring athletics, finalizing Grade 9 shop placements, and successfully navigating the ELA MCAS, our students have remained highly engaged and determined. Their focus and effort truly set the standard for our school community, and we encourage them to keep that momentum going as we head toward the finish line.
Thank you for your partnership and support in helping our students thrive. Let’s work together to make this final quarter our strongest one yet!
Please see the remainder of the update below.
Thank you,
John N. Lavoie | Superintendent-Director
Chet Jackson | Principal

Student Choice and Leadership in CTE
A Message from Principal Jackson:
Last Friday, I had the pleasure of completing another round of learning walks in our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. I was joined by CTE Director Lauren Jones and CTE Coordinator Lindsay as we observed the incredible work taking place in Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, Environmental Science, EEC, IT/Programming, Medical Assisting, and Health Assisting.
As a reminder for our community, our school-wide instructional goal for this year is focused on active, student-centered learning:
GLTS educators ensure that all students actively engage in thinking, discourse, and problem-solving that builds ownership of learning and prepares them for success in school, work, and life with targeted support to ensure that those historically furthest from opportunity achieve at the highest levels.
It was fantastic to see this goal demonstrated so clearly across these diverse programs. Rather than focusing solely on the specific technical tasks of each trade, our team noted several powerful themes showing how our students are taking true ownership of their education across the curriculum.
SOME KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR VISIT INCLUDED:
Creative projects with student choice, allowing learners multiple ways to demonstrate their mastery of standards. In one area, students showed their understanding of complex scientific concepts by choosing from a variety of prompts. These included writing a "day in the life" story of a scientist, creating a board game, writing a diary entry using the five senses, drawing a humorous cartoon, or composing a song.
Reflective collaboration and problem-solving, with students working together to review the challenging aspects of their future professions. We heard rich discussions as students asked each other what challenges they noticed, how they could change those dynamics, and what solutions they could implement.
Structured academic discussions, where students engaged in formal debate structures to build communication skills. They practiced formulating opening statements, presenting evidence rounds, engaging in rebuttals and open discussion, and delivering closing statements.
Student-led instruction and mentorship, including older students actively supporting younger peers in CTE Readiness. We also observed highly engaging student-led activities where learners guided each other through complex, hands-on stations focused on anatomy, physiology, and technical procedures.
Practical application and career readiness, with students applying their skills to real-world tasks. Across the rooms, we saw students mounting hardware, coding and gaming, designing and manufacturing tangible products, and engaging in rigorous preparation for industry certification exams.
It was encouraging to see our students thriving in these dynamic lessons that truly turn the learning over to them. By embracing these choices and leadership opportunities, they are building the critical thinking skills necessary for their future careers. A sincere thank you to our CTE teachers for their hard work and dedication to making learning so meaningful and accessible for every student.

Grade 9 CTE Selection & Placement Dates
Shop selection / ranking was this past week (Tuesday 3/24) for those students who are now in their academic week rotation and this upcoming week (Tuesday 3/31) for those students currently in their shop week.
The career area selection process is done through a google form:
You will rank all 8 shop areas explored #1 through #8
- #1 is your TOP / first shop choice preference
- #2 is your second shop choice preference
- #3 is your third shop choice preference
- #4 is your fourth shop choice preference and so on, until you get to #8
- #8 is your last shop choice preference
If you did not explore 8 career areas (due to an extended absence) you only rank the number shops you explored
The google form will be shared on Tuesday, March 31st for grade 9 students in their shop week. Please remember to bring your charged chromebooks to shop on Tuesday in order to make your shop selection choices. As a reminder students are only ranking the 8 shops from the eight rotations explored during Career Exploration (5-day rotation). Ms. Gioia shared a planning tool to help guide you in your shop ranking process and the presentation shared in February with the information about the placement process.
Please reach out to your school counselor if you need help with the shop ranking process. If you are having technical difficulties with the google form, please reach out to Ms. Gioia via email (igioia@glts.net).
CTE: Career and Technical Education
We are proud to spotlight the incredible successes of our co-op students as they make meaningful contributions in real-world workplace settings and represent our school with professionalism and pride.
Congratulations to Johashley Henriquez, who was recognized as Employee of the Month at her co-op site, Star Aftercare and Daycare! In an exceptional display of dedication and work ethic, Johashley made such a strong impression that the organization created this award for her after just two weeks on the job. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and the positive impact she is already making. She is a true reflection of excellence in action.
We also have exciting news from Advanced Manufacturing! This week marks the launch of the first Grade 11 co-op placement, with Ethan Shapiro beginning at Concept Machining in Billerica. Through this new partnership, Ethan will gain hands-on experience in CNC machining within a dynamic job shop environment, allowing him to develop a diverse and valuable set of technical skills. We look forward to seeing his continued growth as he takes this important step in his career pathway.
Additionally, two Advanced Manufacturing juniors, Eliandra Fernandez and Isbel Sanchez, have received job offers from P&G Gillette! Both students will be working in the Machine Tool Operations division in South Boston, an incredible opportunity to further develop their skills in a professional setting. We are so proud of Eliandra and Isbel for earning this opportunity and continuing to raise the bar for excellence!
