State Test Out Opportunity

Students in grades 9-12 are provided the opportunity to test out of certain graduation requirements by earning a passing score on a comprehensive credit exam prior to enrolling in the class. Testing out is an opportunity for students to earn credits for material they may already have a strong foundation in, without having to take the actual course for a semester or school year. To understand more about the courses for this opportunity, the score required, and the testing dates, please go to this link: https://mhs.maryville-schools.org/academics/state-test-out. The testing date for this fall semester will be Saturday, December 6th. If you need more information, please email Mrs. Bishop.

This guide includes information about local resources, such as food assistance, utility support, housing, and other essential services—available to those who may be affected. Please share this information with anyone who may find it useful. This is a working resource, and the United Way will keep updating it to meet community needs.

Procedure Reminders Procedure Reminders

Snow Day/ Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of a snow day school closing as determined by Maryville City Schools, MVS will cancel all on-site meetings and any virtual TEAMS meetings. Students are still expected to complete all assignments on time for the week and due dates will not change. If your ability to complete assignments is affected by weather-related loss of power or Wi-Fi, students are to email teachers when they are able and request guidance. MCS delayed start or early dismissal will only alter the times of on-site or TEAMS meetings that fall within the shifted time. If changes need to be made, MVS staff will email families directly. MCS digital days will have no effect on the MVS schedule.

Ready to Start Driving?

Students must request their 1010 Form before going to the DMV to receive their Learner’s Permit. Please call MVS or email Jennifer Davis. 1010 forms are given based on the previous 9 weeks' grades. If you are failing multiple classes, you are not eligible for a 1010 form until your grades are brought up to passing. The 1010 forms are good for 30 days during the school year.

Turning in Late Work?

If you are turning in any late work, be sure to always contact your teacher after submitting the assignment. Teachers are not notified when a student submits assignments after the due date, so they may not know you even turned something in.

Feeling Sick?

Please remember to email your teachers and the MVS front office any doctor's notes for appointments or illness. Each student has 10 "parent convenience" days that are considered excused with no note. Any absences beyond those 10 days without a medical or legal note will be marked unexcused.

Tempted to Use AI or the Internet to Plagiarize?

If a teacher wants your student to use AI to help with an assignment or writing, then he or she will let them know that when the assignment is made. Unless a teacher gives students permission to use AI for a specific assignment, students are not to use Artificial Intelligence sites or apps to help with MVS assignments. Work that is generated with the use of AI will be treated like plagiarism and will be graded as such. If this occurs, teachers may give students a zero for the assignment or the option to come into MVS to rewrite an essay with paper and pencil or monitored technology. As a reminder, please see the Student Contract & Honor Code below that was signed at orientation.
