Note from the Principal
Happy New Year! As we welcome 2025, I hope this message finds you refreshed and ready to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. A new year brings with it a chance to reflect, reset, and refocus, and we are excited to continue our journey of learning and growth together.
At CHES, our mission remains steadfast: to build lifelong leaders and learners. This guiding principle inspires everything we do, from the classroom to the playground, and it fuels our commitment to helping every student discover their unique strengths and potential.
This year, our word of the year, "Believe," continues to light our path. We encourage our students, staff, and families to believe in their abilities, in the power of education, and in the positive difference we can make together. When we believe in ourselves and each other, there’s no limit to what we can achieve!
We are also looking forward to continuing to show the world the legacy we are leaving here at CHES. Through our dedication to leadership, learning, and community, we are shaping a future that will make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and the world around us.
Thank you for your partnership and support as we strive to make 2025 a year of growth, success, and celebration for our CHES community.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Winter Weather is Here...
With the Winter Storm, I anticipate tough decisions ahead for Mr. Broughton and our Central Office staff. I have attached our Winter Weather Policy for your review. CHES will do our best to communicate as quickly as possible following any district decisions.
Please watch for important information from our superintendent. At this time, no decision has been made about school for this week. If we happen to be on a DCPS@Home day, students will need to work on their DCPS@Home packets each day we are out. These packets were asked to be kept in your child's take home folder. If your child is able to use a personal device from home, then please have them join their teacher in the google meet. Completion of packet work will determine attendance on these days. Also, all staff will be available to assist your child in the completion of their work.

Volunteer Opportunities
Riley the Brave- Family Book of the Year
We are excited to start sending home, for your family to enjoy, our Book of the Year, Riley the Brave. The oldest student from each household will be bringing home their class book for your family to read together. Each family will have an opportunity with the book over the next several months. Through these first weeks of school, each class has taken time to read and study Riley the Brave in hopes of assisting students in BELIEVING that they can be brave in healthy ways when coping with life's challenges. Your child is now excited to share this book with you! Enjoy!
Click HERE for the Safety Tipline, Online Prevention or S.T.O.P Tipline is designed for use as an "online" reporting/prevention tool. If students, parents, or community members know of an unsafe situation in school (bullying, weapons, drugs or alcohol, etc.), they can anonymously pass on that information to school personnel by using this basic email format.
