Hazel Owens Elementary

Thank you to our PTA for organizing the Read-A-Thon event, for every student participating, reading and logging minutes, and for your friends and families making generous donations to our campus. The students have really enjoyed wearing hats, pajamas, dressing up their teachers, not to mention that multiple students have mentioned their desire to pie Mrs. Baker and I in the face--so i'm thinking the reward system is working! I've also loved seeing the top-10 reader board changing every day and seeing the number of total reading minutes grow to over 100,000 minutes!

On another note, we've got a couple of paraprofessional positions open at the moment or coming available in the near future. If you or someone you know is looking for some exposure to classroom instruction or clerical work please have them reach out to me at weldon.davis@tylerisd.org.

• October 21st - Dress Like Encanto Character -Whole School Read-A-Thon Celebration
• October 31st - Storybook Character Parade, 1:30pm - 2:30pm

As it stands, Mrs. Hendrix and Ms. Murray's classes are neck-in-neck for getting to pie-the-principals! Which class is it going to be? We sincerely appreciate you sharing your donation links on social media and for helping & encouraging your students to log their minutes.

I have started highlighting students who are being successful in their extra curriculars outside of school on the morning announcements. If you ever snap a video of your child doing something exceptional at sports, dance, gymnastics, music, church, or in the community please share it with me so I can highlight them for exemplifying the 7 Habits outside of school.
