A Team Staff News
September 30, 2026
Superintendent Message
A-Team Staff,
It was great to see so many people out for our homecoming parade even though we got rained on. Thanks for supporting our kids and community through a fun tradition.
Conferences are coming up - thank you for all the ways you serve our students and families. The partnership between home and school is so important for our students.
Finally, please pay attention to the operating levy information. We have 33 days until the election today and want to make sure all our staff and parents have the information they need to make an informed decision.
Enjoy the fall weekend ahead!

The Cardinal Community Plan - Bringing State Education Dollars Home
Alexandria Public Schools is asking residents to consider approving a school funding request. This referendum stems from a new state legislative program—the Seasonal Recreation Tax Base Replacement Aid—designed specifically to help communities like ours. Currently, local property tax dollars from seasonal recreational properties (cabins) go into the state's general fund. This new aid allows us to bring those dollars back home to support our local students. (see graphic below)
Here are a few key takeaways regarding the plan:
Addressing Our Budget Shortfall: Alexandria faces a $4 million shortfall for the upcoming school year due to state funding not keeping pace with inflation and unfunded mandates. The proposed referendum will generate an additional $3.7 million to stabilize our budget, protect neighborhood school funding, preserve student services, and retain our exceptional staff.
Leveraging State Aid: By replacing two of our existing levies (our current Local Optional Revenue levy and the 2019 referendum levy) with a single new operating levy ($2,225 per pupil), the state will pick up 51% of the cost through this new aid program.
Impact on Local Taxpayers: The state has created this opportunity and it solves over ½ of our budget challenges; with local property owners picking up 49%. For an owner of a $400,000 home, this proposal represents an increase of just $10 per month.
Learn more about the funding request at CardinalCommunityPlan.org - and remember to vote November 3rd!
