Bully Prevention and Awareness Month Bully Prevention and Awareness Month

October is Bully Prevention and Awareness month. Students participated in Unity Day on October 16th by wearing orange to raise awareness to prevent bullying. Students created unity links with their Crew Buddies and shared how they can be INCLUSIVE and CARING towards others. The orange links are displayed in Adventure's library as a visual reminder for our commitment to have a bully free commUNITY.

Adventure students will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31. All PK-6 students are invited to come dressed in school-appropriate costumes (no masks, no fake weapons or blood). There will be a costume parade at 8:15 and families are invited to join us in the gym to watch. Classrooms may have celebrations following the parade, see information from your child's teacher for more details.

Extracurricular Clubs Update Extracurricular Clubs Update

This week, many students began extracurricular clubs and academic support programs provided by the 21st CCLC grant from the Colorado Department of Education. This grant funds both fun and enriching activities such as cooking, jewelry making, and board games as well as academic supports like reading intervention and homework help.

We are aware that not everyone who wanted to participate was able to join this semester due to space constraints. Our program will continue to expand now that it is up and running and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work out glitches that come with any new program. This round of programming lasts up to Winter Break. A new round of extracurriculars will begin in mid-January.

As always, reach out to Xochi for more information: RuizX@mapleton.us or 303-853-1445.

ADV Student Council Hosts Mock Election! ADV Student Council Hosts Mock Election!

Student Council is hosting a Presidential Mock Election on Tuesday, November 5th in the library. Members of StuCo will be learning about the election process and the presidential candidates. They will be visiting students in 3rd through 5th grades to share their learning and explain how the mock election will work. Once voting is complete, members of Stuco will tally the votes and announce the winner!

Student Talk at Adventure! Student Talk at Adventure!

zoom_out_map
Adventure Staff have begun work on enhancing student academic conversations at all grade levels. We know that whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning, so it is of the utmost importance to us to ensure that our students get plenty of meaningful opportunities to use academic language with each other. Meaningful language use is also an essential component of Dual Language learning. Students being able to communicate effectively in their dominant and second language is an essential goal of our Dual Language Enrichment program. Families can support academic conversations at home by encouraging their students to use body language that promotes effective discussions when talking, which means making eye contact, listening to the speaker, and taking turns in conversation. Families can encourage these behaviors in any language and this support will transfer to students’ participation in academic conversations at school.

Get Involved! Help us help the students!

This week, a big special thanks to Claudia (Iker and Emily's grandma)! She's been busy at work behind the scenes, creating the beautiful Hispanic Heritage display pictured here, collecting students' autographs on thoughtful posters for our classified employees, and preparing signs for Trunk or Treat. Mil gracias, Claudia!

Our next PIE meeting is Friday, November 15 at 8:15. Please join us! The group will be planning a Thanksgiving food drive and a December winter crafts event.
