National Bullying Prevention Month
Respect for All: Preventing and Addressing Student-to-Student Discrimination, Sexual and Other Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying
NYCPS and LaGuardia High School are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment that is free from harassment, intimidation and/or bullying, sexual harassment, and discrimination on account of actual or perceived race, color, age, creed, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship/immigration status, religion, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, or weight.
The NYCPS Respect for All (RFA) program was launched in 2007 to build the capacity of staff and students to actively promote a community of inclusion in each of our schools. The importance of promoting respect for diversity in our daily practice is vital to creating and sustaining an inclusive school climate and culture in each of our schools so that all students feel valued, supported and safe.
National Bullying Prevention Month
Bullying is aggressive behavior that is unwanted and negative, is intended to cause some kind of harm, involves a real or perceived imbalance of power (physical or social) or strength and/or can be a single incident or a series of related incidents and can take many forms. It includes, but is not limited to, behavior that targets students because of their actual or perceived race, color, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship/immigration status, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or weight. Bullying includes but is not limited to:
- Physical violence;
- Stalking;
- Verbal or physical conduct that threatens another with harm;
- Threats, hazing, taunting, aggressive, or menacing gestures;
- Exclusion from peer groups designed to humiliate or isolate;
- Using derogatory language or making derogatory jokes or name calling to humiliate or harass;
- Posting or electronically circulating written or graphic material that is derogatory toward others (cyberbullying);
- Deliberately using a name, mispronouncing a name or using a pronoun in a manner that discriminates, harasses, bullies, or intimidates.
NYCPS encourages all members of the school community to:
Foster a respectful and inclusive school culture
Promote awareness of bullying and harassment prevention resources
Encourage students, families, and staff to report concerns
Share information about available reporting options for bullying and harassment.
Students and families can report bullying the following ways:
Speak to their school’s Respect for All liaison(s) or a trusted adult
Call the P311 Bullying Support Line at 718-935-2288
Call the Anti-Hate Hotline at 718-935-2889
All reports of bullying, harassment, discrimination or intimidating behavior will be investigated. Support is available to students and families before, during, and after an investigation.

After School Events and Rehearsals Building Entrance
Students participating in after school programs (except clubs) are able to leave the building after school and return to their event; however, all students must have entered the building by 4:30 PM. Students may not enter the building after 4:30 PM.
Staff members should plan their after school schedule so that all students have returned to the building by 4:30 PM. Examples of this would be a rehearsal dinner break and the director is not working with a specific group of students so they were assigned a later call time.
Student Activities and Engagement
After School Information
General After School Information
The number of School Safety Agents, city wide, is a concern because this affects our school day and after school programs. Often we are operating with a reduced staff. This necessitates some changes or refinement of our school operations.
Students participating in any program, event, or rehearsal after school should unlock their phones and retrieve their belongings from their lockers prior to the activity beginning. Once the event ends, students are not to go to their lockers but exit the building. (Locker areas are also out-of-bounds during weekend activities and rehearsals). Please know the area(s) that are included in the activity's permit and do not go to areas not covered by the permit.
Students are able to leave the building at the end of their school day and before their activity begins; however, students must swipe into the building upon their return.
Students must arrive back to the building before 4:30 PM and must be in a location supervised by a staff member. On performance days or days with evening events, the Assistant Principal will coordinate the call time/report time with the AP Security, Mr. Brummell.
Clubs
This was a great week for clubs to begin. As a reminder, a student just needs to show up to a club meeting to join (for most clubs), and everyone is welcome! Here are a couple of reminders:
- Be sure Yondr Pouches are unlocked before attending meetings
- Go to lockers before meetings; lockers not available after meetings
- Students may use phones/text during after school programs provided it does not interfere with meetings or activities.
- All students must be in a location that is supervised by a staff member
- Special club activities that are scheduled to end after 4:25 PM must have a separate approved building permit on file.
Daily Time Schedule
3:35 PM. Clubs activities begin
4:25 PM Clubs activities end (and rooms must be free of students)
4:30 PM Club members must have exited building
Incoming Student Mixer a Success
Approximately 300 Incoming Students attended Friday's "mixer" in the 5th Floor Cafeteria after school. They enjoyed snacks, music, and the chance to get to know their fellow classmates at our Welcome Mixer! The afternoon featured a game of Hamilton musical chairs, karaoke, and lots of fun. The event was presented by our Guidance Team & SGO with tremendous support from our Parents Association. A special thank you to SGO Underclassmen Representative Lola and Events Liaison Charlotte for helping lead the activities. Our incoming students are off to an awesome start!
Posters and Fliers Guidelines
School event/activity fliers, including performance notices, may be posted only on “LaGuardia News” bulletin boards located in the escalator banks, on the wall to the right of each cafeteria entrance, on stairwell landings, and in classrooms with teacher permission.
- Items posted that do not follow these guidelines will be removed.
- Painted walls are not to be damaged when removing tape (use painter's tape)
- Fire safety equipment can never be covered by fliers.
- Event/activity posting fliers must remove the fliers after the event has occurred
