Good evening, Trojan Families!

This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.

Good Evening Trojan Families,

We are excited to have the third quarter underway and to continue the great momentum we’ve built this school year! This week is an important one for our students as they will be taking their NWEA and interim assessments. These assessments help us measure their growth and identify areas where we can provide additional support.

To ensure students perform at their best, we need your help! Please encourage your child to:
✅ Get a good night’s rest before each testing day
✅ Arrive on time to school every day
✅ Eat a healthy breakfast (available at school if needed)
✅ Bring a fully charged Chromebook (if applicable)

Attendance is crucial this week! Every day matters, and we want to see all of our students giving their best effort. Your support at home makes a huge difference in their success.

Thank you for being amazing partners in your child’s education. Let’s make this a great week!

MATH MOMENTUM

The Math Department is excited to see our Math scholars demonstrate their Math knowledge and prowess on upcoming district and national assessments. We continue to evaluate the best ways to determine how well scholars have understood and retained math concepts, terms, and vocabulary. They will take the Second District Math Interim Assessment on Tuesday, 2/4/25 and the Second

NWEA Math MAPS on Friday, 2/7/25. The NWEA Math MAPS assessment will compare their scores to other scholars in the same grade across the country while the District Interim Assessment will compare their scores to other scholars in the same grade across the district. Teachers have been reviewing math content for Units 3 and 4 for the past several weeks.

There are also ways that math can be supported at home included in the schematic below.

Please find below the teachers and math content they covered last week in preparation for the Second District Interim Assessment:

Ms. Walker is continuing to review 6th Grade Math from Open Up Units 3 and 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Unit Rates and Percentages and Dividing Fractions.

Ms. Spears is continuing to review 7th Grade Math from Open Up Units 3 and 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Measuring Circles and Proportional Relationships and Percentages.

Mrs. S. Clarke-Huie, Ms. B. Rudesill, and Ms. D. Cole are continuing to review 8th Grade Math from Open Up Units 3 and 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Linear Relationships and Linear Equations and Systems.

Ms. Clarke-Huie is continuing to review Math 1 from Open Up Units 3 and 4, our GCS district approved curriculum, focusing on Features of a Function and Equations and Inequalities.

Ms. Garner, our 8th Grade Math EC Teacher, continues to provide phenomenal support.

Great things continue to lie ahead!

Thank you for your support!
