Message from Principal Rowell

Dear Kohler Families,

The 2026-27 school year is off to a great start, and it’s hard to believe we are already in the final week of our first quarter. As we wrap up these first few months, students have an opportunity to reflect on their progress, celebrate their successes, and identify areas where they may need a little extra support. We encourage students to make checking their Skyward Student Portal a regular habit so they can keep an eye on their grades, stay on top of upcoming assignments, and address any missing work. The end of the quarter is a great time to make adjustments, set goals, and build good habits for the remainder of the school year.

Please continue to encourage your child to reach out to their teachers whenever they have questions or need help. Learning to take ownership of their learning and advocate for themselves are valuable skills that will serve them well both in school and beyond. A little encouragement and support along the way can make a big difference.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Kohler School Friends PTO for providing a delicious dinner for our staff during parent-teacher conferences. The gift bag was such a thoughtful gesture, and we are grateful for the continued support and care you show our staff.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school counselors, activities and athletics director, or me if we can be of assistance to you or your child. We truly value the partnership we share with our families and know that when school and home work together, we create a stronger community and the best possible opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.

With appreciation.

Natasha Rowell, Principal

Students reviewed physical and chemical properties of matter through a fun Cup Ping-Pong Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge!

To claim a spot on the board, students had to bounce a ping-pong ball into a cup and correctly answer a chemistry question. This activity combined friendly competition with learning while reinforcing key chemistry concepts.

Football

The Football Team had a very competitive season in their new conference. They ended the year 3-6 in the NEC Conference.

The NEC has 3-4 teams that will make very deep playoff runs and a few that could certainly challenge for state titles in their respective divisions. Given that, the year was a huge success for KLC. While there may be some challenges ahead, this group is going in the right direction. Congrats on a well fought season!

Middle School Counselor - Mrs. Navis

Happy fall! As students settle into the school year, we’re continuing to build skills that support learning, organization, and well-being. Please reach out if your child is feeling anxious or having difficulty adjusting to middle school. I’m here to help.

What We’re Learning in Study Skills

Sixth graders have been practicing how to prepare for each class, organize their lockers, and use daily planners, Google Calendar, and Google Classroom. We’re now moving into time management - planning ahead, prioritizing tasks, and breaking larger assignments into manageable steps.

How families can help: Ask your child to show you their planner or Google Classroom, talk through upcoming assignments together, and encourage a short daily check-in to update their plan.

Suicide Prevention Unit

Students took part in age-appropriate suicide prevention lessons during 7th- and 8th-grade PE/Health and 6th-grade Study Skills. The lessons focused on recognizing when someone may need support, finding a trusted adult, and seeking help for themselves or a friend.

We encourage you to talk with your child about the lessons and remind them that caring adults are ready to listen. Please contact me with questions. For immediate crisis support, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

October Spotlight: Bullying Prevention and Kindness

October is Bullying Prevention Month. We focused on how words and actions affect others, why name-calling can be hurtful, and how students can help create a respectful school community. A simple check-in, kind word, or reaching out to a trusted adult can make a difference.

Guest Speaker Assembly: Dr. Laymon Hicks

On October 28th, we’re excited to welcome guest speaker Dr. Laymon Hicks for a school-wide assembly. His message will help students see that kindness matters, that reaching success takes hard work, and how they can be someone who makes someone smile each day. Families are invited to preview his speech at https://laymonhicks.com/ and ask their child about the assembly afterward.

Tips for Families

  • Set a regular time and place for homework, with needed materials nearby.

  • Ask your child to check Google Classroom and their planner for assignments and due dates.

  • If work is missing, help your child identify one next step, such as checking with the teacher or making a catch-up plan.

  • Notice and encourage effort, planning, and asking for help - not just completed work.

MS ADD Lesson Schedule

Students have a monthly Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) lesson. After the lesson, ask your child what they learned. Keep the conversation calm and reassuring, and remind them that trusted adults are there to help.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Counselors are available to support any student who feels anxious.

YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP/ INTERNSHIP YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP/ INTERNSHIP

This year Kohler has seven Youth Apprenticeship students working in various roles from Health Care to Marketing to the Trades. Juniors and Seniors if you currently have a job that you love you could potentially participate in the Youth Apprenticeship program.
