9.12.25 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
Thanks to all the families that were able to attend the Ice Cream Social. It was a beautiful night and we had over 250 participants. We have two more big events coming up next week - Picture Day and Donuts with Dads so please read on to get all the details.
Picture Day: Picture day is Monday September 15th. I have linked the online order information below and you should have receive a paper copy of the order form in your student's backpack. I have scheduled each homeroom to come to the gym so please make sure your student arrives to school on time. We will have a make up date in October where you can get retakes if you do not like the first iteration of your child's photos.
The Father's Walk/Donuts with Dads is September 18th. The Father's Walk is sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative. From 8-9 am we will have donuts, juice and coffee for all of the fathers or father figures (grandfather, uncles, step-fathers, or older brothers) who bring their students to school on the 18th. Weather permitting, the event will take place on the playground. We always have a great turnout and hope you can join us!
What reading skills should a K-2 student know at the end of each year? The kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade teachers are putting together a guide that they will review with parents during Fall and Spring conferences. The guide will help to explain if your student is on track with developing grade appropriate phonics skills or if they have specific skills that need support. The guide is being developed using this article that you can read if you want to get more information about phonics skills. We will host our Family Math and Literacy Night in November and encourage you to come as we will have fun games and activities that you can do at home to strengthen your students foundational skills. Please make sure your students read out loud to you for 20 minutes a night as this will support them in becoming fluent readers. When students develop fluency, they can focus on comprehending what they are reading.
PTA: Please consider joining the PTA! The PTA helps sponsor community building activities like the Ice Cream Social and our two book fairs so the work is an important component of our school program. If you can't attend our regular meetings you can still sign up to help with specific events.
