Warhawk Culture
Thank you for your continued support of our no cell phone/electronic device policy during the school day from 7:25 AM – 2:05 PM. Overall, our students are doing very well with this expectation, and we are already seeing so many positives—more authentic interaction, increased participation and engagement in class, and even laughter and smiles as students play board games and Uno at lunch.
This expectation is an important part of living out our Warhawk Blueprint beliefs:
-
Better Together: Students are connecting face-to-face, building stronger relationships with their peers and staff.
-
Own It: Students are learning responsibility by following through with expectations and managing their time and attention.
-
Pursue Excellence: With fewer distractions, students are more engaged in class and striving toward their best.
As a reminder, here are the procedures and consequences if a student does not comply with this school rule:
-
First Offense: The teacher will ask the student to place the phone on their desk for the remainder of the period. At the end of that period, the student will turn the phone in to the main office for the rest of the day. The student may pick it up at dismissal.
-
Second Offense: The same procedure will take place, but this time a parent/guardian will need to pick up the device from the office.
-
Beyond the Second Offense: Students will face school discipline for insubordination, including but not limited to in-school suspension (ALC) and out-of-school suspension.
Please note this policy includes all electronic devices, such as headphones, earbuds, and electronic watches.
We are proud of how our Warhawks are embracing this shift. The positives we’ve seen so far reaffirm that when we live out our Blueprint beliefs, we are truly stronger and more successful as a community.
Thank you for standing with us to support our students.
Wings Up ,
Mrs. Sayre

QDOBA Warhawk Athletes of the Week
The Warhawk Athletes of the Week for August 25 are senior volleyball player Jane Zvolanek and senior soccer player Jake Nelson!
Both were nominated by their coaches for exemplifying the qualities of the Westerville Central Culture Blueprint:
-
Own It
-
Pursue Excellence
-
Better Together
As captains of their respective teams, Jane and Jake lead with both their words and actions. Each will receive a Warhawk Athlete of the Week t-shirt and a free burrito from QDOBA Polaris Parkway.
A big thank you to QDOBA Polaris Parkway for sponsoring the 2025–26 Warhawk Athletes of the Week program!
College and Career Activities and Information
This week during Extended Fly Time on Wednesday, September 2, our School Counseling Team met virtually with seniors and provided lessons and activities for grades 9–11 focused on college and career planning. Families can view the following documents: SchooLinks Resources. We will work with students using SchooLinks throughout the course of the year.
-
Seniors (Class of 2025): Counselors hosted a live Google Meet to review the college application process as well as other post-secondary options.
-
Juniors (Class of 2026): After attendance, students explored colleges and careers through SchooLinks. Students who are unsure about pursuing college had the opportunity to explore additional career pathways.
-
Sophomores (Class of 2027): After attendance, students engaged in activities centered on career exploration and goal setting in SchooLinks.
-
Freshmen (Class of 2028): After attendance, students completed the SchooLinks lesson, “Making the Most out of High School,” which helps them think about how their choices now connect to future opportunities.
Each of these activities is designed to help our Warhawks think ahead, set goals, and explore the many pathways available after high school.
Thank you for partnering with us as we guide students through their high school journey and beyond!
— WCHS School Counseling Team

ASVAB
The ASVAB is a great tool to give students insight to their skills and potential occupations for their future. Taking the ASVAB is a mandatory test for military enlistment, however you could still take the test if you would like another tool for career exploration. The test is free and will be held:
Date: Tuesday, October 21
Time: 8:00am (Student should arrive no later than 7:45am)
Place: Westerville South High School Library
** Students from Westerville North and Westerville Central are invited but must find their own transportation. Students from WNHS and WCHS must sign in at the Main Office prior to coming to the Library.
Students need to complete the Google form to register for the ASVAB test. The deadline to register is October 15th. See your counselor if you have any questions.

GO HAWKS!
We are proud to share some exciting news! This year, 39 students from Westerville Central High School have been recognized by the College Board National Recognition Program.
In 2025, the College Board offered three awards to celebrate student achievement across the nation:
-
First Generation Recognition Award
-
Rural and Small-Town Recognition Award
-
School Recognition Award (new this year, honoring top-performing students in every high school, including lesser-known schools)
To be eligible, students verify their qualifications during their sophomore or junior year by meeting the following criteria:
-
Take the PSAT/NMSQT (10th or 11th), PSAT 10 (10th), and/or AP Exams (by the end of 10th grade).
-
Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher (B+ average) at the time of submission.
-
Meet at least one of these performance benchmarks:
• Be among the top 10% of test takers in their high school.
• Be identified as a first-generation college student in their state.
• Be identified as a rural or small-town student in their state.
• Earn a score of 3 or higher on two or more distinct AP Exams in 8th–10th grade.
We are incredibly proud of our Warhawks for earning this distinction through their hard work and commitment to learning. We will soon announce the names of the recipients and look forward to celebrating them together.
Go Warhawks!
Academic Boosters - Cookies Needed!
We are honoring nearly 300 students (and their families) for their academic performance from the 2024-25 school year on September 10th and need 30 dozen cookies for after the program. Please have the cookies in the office no later than 3 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 9th labeled "Fall Academic Awards." They do NOT need to be homemade. Thank you!
- Tire Rack Street Survival – A full-day class on Saturday, September 27th at Safelite AutoGlass HQ (near Sawmill Rd in Dublin). Students will participate in three classroom sessions and two hands-on driving sessions using their own car, with guidance from an experienced volunteer driving coach.
- Maria’s Message – A local program founded by Dom Tiberi (10TV News) and his family, focused on safe attitudes and defensive driving.
Both organizations are dedicated to helping young drivers develop defensive driving skills, safe habits, and confidence behind the wheel.

The group will meet once a week. Group discussion topics will include team-building, healthy communication, cyber safety and social media, friendships and bullying, stress and pressure, personal safety and assertiveness, body image and the media, academic/career development and leadership. In addition to these discussions, students will learn self defense, collaborate with other ROX groups in the district, and explore opportunities to give back to the community.
This program will be offered to fifteen total 9th and 10th grade girls at WCHS for the 2025/2026 school year. If you are interested, please complete this form (must be completed from a Westerville student email account) before Monday September 15th. Membership will be based on interest and availability.

Your student will be asked to show their school ID. No yearbooks will be handed out without an ID. Questions? See Ms. Deborah Jones in room 2203 or email.
Homecoming Message from The Lakes
Warhawk Families,
We have been asked to share an important message from The Lakes Golf and Country Club regarding Homecoming pictures.
Please note that The Lakes is not available as a location for Homecoming photos. Should students or families still choose to go there, security will ask them to leave upon arrival. This will only cause a delay in their evening plans as they will need to find another location for pictures.
The Lakes’ priority is to maintain a comfortable environment for their members while also ensuring that our students and families enjoy a smooth and positive Homecoming experience.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
School Counseling Needs Assessment
Warhawk Families, Westerville Secondary Schools will be conducting a School Counseling Needs Assessment for all students in grades 6-12 this year to identify needs, areas for program improvement, topics for small groups, barriers to student success, as well as strengths and gaps in existing services. The school counseling team worked together to develop the set questions in 4 areas: Academic, Social-Emotional, Career and College, and general needs. Students will take the anonymous needs assessment during Advisory/Flytime on September 17, 2025.
Please see the information flyer, the list of survey questions, and the letter and opt-out form linked below for more details. Our team will review results to ensure the school counseling program is responsive and aligned with the school's evolving needs.
Columbus College Suburban Fair
The Columbus Suburban College Fair will be held at Capital University on September 21st from 1:00-3:30pm. This is a great opportunity to speak with different college representatives throughout the country. For more information in regard to the Columbus Suburban College, a flyer can be found here.
