Avon North Families,

Thank you all for a great first month of the school year! August can be a whirlwind of back-to-school activities, extra-curriculars, and simply getting back into school routines. I truly appreciate everything you do as parents and guardians to help make it all work. Your students have settled in nicely, and it’s been wonderful to begin getting to know them.

Important Dates on The Horizon

September 25 – Parent-Teacher Conferences

These conferences are for families with students in grades K-8. Please note the following updates for this school year:

  • K-8 students will not attend school in person on Thursday, September 25
  • Instead, they will complete eLearning activities from home.
  • Preschool and high school students will follow their regular schedule on this day.
  • All ACSC students will have a normal school day on Friday, September 26.
  • We encourage grade 6-8 parents to bring their child to the parent-teacher conference.

Teachers will be available for conferences between 10:45 AM and 6:30 PM on September 25. These 15-minute meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

On Wednesday, September 3rd, you’ll receive a message via Parent Square with a link to an electronic form to schedule your conference time. Middle school families will be assigned a specific team teacher to meet with, and we’ll confirm your appointment details, including teacher and location, by Monday, September 22.

Don't hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions!

Go Orioles,

Mike McKinney

Principal

Athletics Athletics

All student athletes will need to have a FinalForms Account before participating in any type of conditioning or tryouts at Avon Middle School North. ACSC uses a completely paperless clearance process. The process includes a paperless IHSAA Pre-Participation Physical, dated after April 1, 2025. A parent/guardian will be required to create an account and manage the necessary documents for all of their student/athletes using the FinalForms l. This process will provide a higher level of security and efficiency than the previous process. Please see Avon North athletic webpage for complete information. https://amsnorth.avon-schools.org/athletics

All home, non-tournament contests hosted by AMS North have the following admission rate:

Admission: $5

Children 5 and under: free
Adults 62 and over: free

We will offer 10-game athletic passes for $30 each. Passes can be purchased at the gate, and are good for regular-season contests. They are NOT accepted at any tournaments, including County, Conference and Invitationals.

Counselor's Corner Counselor's Corner

As School Counselors, we are here to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. This month, we’re focusing on goal setting, overcoming obstacles, and motivation. Please reach out if you need guidance or resources!

Here are some practical tips for parents of middle schoolers to help support their kids through these important years:

1. Stay Involved but Give Space

· Show interest in their schoolwork and activities.

· Encourage independence—let them take responsibility for homework and time management.

2. Communicate Openly

· Create an environment where they feel comfortable sharing thoughts and feelings.

· Listen actively without immediately jumping to solutions or judgments.

3. Set Consistent Routines

· Establish regular times for homework, meals, and bedtime.

· Routines help with organization and reduce stress.

4. Encourage Healthy Friendships

· Talk about the importance of positive peer relationships.

· Get to know their friends and their parents if possible.

5. Support Emotional Development

· Recognize mood swings as normal but watch for signs of distress.

· Teach coping strategies for stress and frustration.

Recommended Resources

· Books: "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio — a great story about kindness and acceptance.

· Apps: Calm and Headspace for mindfulness and relaxation.

The thought of paying for college can feel overwhelming. Did you know that eligible students who meet certain requirements can get a two or four-year scholarship that pays up to 100% tuition at eligible Indiana colleges and Universities?

  • Students who are at least 13 years old should create a ScholarTrack account, regardless of their 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.
  • When the ScholarTrack account is created, students must sign the Scholar Pledge to confirm enrollment in the program. This should be completed by the end of 9th grade.
  • Once the Scholar Pledge is signed, Scholars must complete the Scholar Success Program. All students can complete the program regardless of 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.

International Travel Opportunity

Our Spanish teacher, Señora Clark, is offering an international travel experience in the summer of 2027. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Ecuador in collaboration with EF Tours. This is a student-focused educational tour, with an emphasis on learning about the country, its history, cultures, biodiversity, and language. This custom itinerary focuses on the Andes and Amazon regions of Ecuador. Students will be accompanied by veteran teachers who have a passion for Spanish and Science who have been to Ecuador several times. Educational travel will help your child gain a more global perspective, shape their independence, and broaden their horizons. Highlights of this hands-on learning experience include visiting the equator, indigenous communities, waterfalls and hot springs, and a traditional chocolate factory. We will participate in a cooking class, salsa dancing lessons, whitewater rafting, an Amazon night, and more. This opportunity is open to students currently in middle school. We do welcome parents to travel with us, but students are our focus.

Meeting date: September 17th from 6:00-7:00 PM in the AMS North Media Center (Door 30)

Please RSVP for the Ecuador meeting here: https://rsvp.eftours.com/2ahp4r6

Questions? Email Señora Clark at sclark@avon-schools.org

*This opportunity is not school sponsored, just like the Washington D.C. trip.

Building Access

In Avon Schools, safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. A building access intercom system was installed at AMSNorth. Visitors will press the doorbell and be asked to identify yourself and provide a reason for your visit. Thank you for your patience in adapting to this updated, more secure system.

Attendance:

If a student is absent from school, a parent or guardian must call the school at 317-544-5500 by 10:00 am to report the absence or send an email to MNattendance@avon-schools.org

Early Dismissal:

When students have to leave school early for special appointments, a note from a parent or guardian must be brought from home to secure an “Early Dismissal” slip from the office. The note must be brought to the front office before school starts.

Tardy to School:

If a student arrives after the tardy bell, he/she must sign in at the office before going to class. Students who are late due to school bus problems are excused. Excessive tardiness to school may result in an assignment of lunch detention, before/after-school detention or Saturday School.

AM/PM Car Rider Procedures:

In the morning,

  • Cars must merge into one lane before reaching Door 1.
  • The doors are not unlocked until 9:15 am.

In the afternoon,

  • Students will dismiss at 4:10pm
  • Car riders will exit from the main entrance - Door One
  • You may enter campus from Dan Jones Road and enter the car line.
  • Students may enter your car from anywhere on the sidewalk.
  • We are not allowing students to walk across the car line to load into the cars in the parking lot.

Homework Request:

Parents and students may obtain homework assignments through Schoology and monitor grades through Power Parent.

Lunch:

Please note that we do not accept food for students delivered from restaurants or outside delivery services.
