What's Happening at EMES
This summer and into early fall across our district we have been exploring how we build and showcase community in our buildings and district wide. In an expression of this learning the Elementary Principals decided to host the first ever Community Fall Festival. Berlin, Calais, Doty, East Montpelier, and Rumney elementary schools will be gathering at the East Montpelier Rec Fields and EMES grounds on October 10th for a Fall Festival - a day filled with games and connections across the district.
This opportunity for exploration has come through the Community Schools Grant. The Fall Festival will be supported by U-32 as they will send over some student volunteers to help run the activities. All five towns will have representation from U-32 so elementary students will be able to connect with their U32 neighbors.
We are excited to be putting our district’s core values of community and belonging into action!
As a reminder, all-school hike permission slips need to be turned in ASAP - our fall hike is one week from today! Mr. Sherwin will reach out to chaperones directly in the coming days. We're looking forward to this annual fall opportunity!
Enjoy the beautiful fall weekend!

Fuzzy Caterpillars at EMES!
There have been reports of students finding and touching caterpillars in our playground. Please remind your children that fuzzy caterpillars may look cute and harmless, but some species have tiny hairs or spines that can cause skin irritation, rashes, or even painful stings when touched. For children, the reaction can be more intense, leading to itching, redness, or swelling. It’s best to admire caterpillars from a distance and remind kids not to touch them with bare hands to avoid unwanted reactions. We're doing our best to remind them at school as well!
Draw a Story at Bear Pond Books!
Hi EMES and Calais families! There's a cool "Draw Your Story" book event happening at Bear Pond Books in Montpelier on Saturday, Sep. 20 at 2pm! More information is in the flyer pictured below, but I wanted to flag that one author coming, Emma Hunsinger, has their graphic novel "How It All Ends" on this year's nomination list for the VT Golden Dome Book Award! Students in 4th-8th grade who read at least 5 of the 25 nominees are eligible to vote for their favorite in May, and a kids' choice winner is selected. Come meet a Golden Dome author and others if you or your student are interested!
