4A Design Challenge
Last week a student group in Ms. York's class presented their STEM design challenge of how they would get supplies and aid to natural disaster victims. The group's chosen natural disaster was a flash flood. They had aid coming by boat, helicopter, ADA compliant ramps, etc., along with medical aid and food. They did a great job!

Thank You, BES Families and PTA!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to our amazing BES families for making a very busy conference week wonderful! Throughout this crazy week of late nights and early mornings, you nourished our bodies and brains with delicious snacks, a hearty soup and salad dinner, a delectable breakfast from Rise, and extra special treats. We are so grateful for your dedication and support of the students and staff at Berthoud Elementary! You are truly the best community in the land! And thank you to our amazing PTA for organizing it all!
Book Fair Fun!
This week, the Scholastic book fair visited BES. Whether they were discovering new books, picking out cool new pens and notebooks, or purchasing a donation for their class and teacher, students had a great time discovering all the treasures at the fair!
Special thanks to Ms. Trish for all the hard work that went into the fair, and to the volunteers that generously gave their time to help!

Important Visitor Update!
Photo ID Required for Entry - NEW PROCEDURES THIS YEAR!
This school year we will be strictly enforcing the district policy of requiring photo ID for entry into the building during school hours. In the past we have buzzed in familiar faces, but we will no longer be able to do that. If you do not have a photo ID with you, you will not be able to enter the school building, no exceptions. We will have a sign outside the door directing you where to show your ID. We appreciate your understanding of this policy, and its purpose of providing consistency and a safe environment for our students and staff.
Leaving Early?
Will you be signing your student out early? The office greatly appreciates a call ahead! This gives us a little extra time to locate students if they are out to recess, at lunch, or in specials.
Please remember that you must present photo ID to sign out your student. When you arrive, please ring the bell by the front entrance, show your ID to the camera, and our office staff will assist you!

Best Ways To Report Attendance
If your student will be absent or late, please use the parent portal to submit their absence, or call the attendance line at 970-613-7590. This is an automated line that can be used 24 hours a day.
Helpful Information
School Times
The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast is served beginning at 7:40 a.m. and is free and optional for all students. School dismisses at 3:07 p.m. for kindergarten, and 3:10 p.m. for grades 1-5. Students will be dismissed from their classroom’s outside door. Wednesdays are late start days - school begins at 9:00 a.m.
Soft Start Info - At the 7:50 bell, students not participating in breakfast can enter the building through the front or back doors and go to their classrooms. After the 8:00 bell, all students must enter through the front door and stop in the office for a tardy pass.

After School Care
The YMCA offers child care after school. Their contact info is 720-951-7522 or berthoud@ymcanoco.org. Spots do fill up, so if you are in need of this service, please apply early.
Nutritional Services
Breakfast and lunch are free to all students through the Healthy School Meals for All program. Because the Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA) program is funded in partnership with federal nutrition programs that rely on income information to support meals for all students, all families are still highly encouraged to fill out a Meal Benefit application. Other state and federal grants are awarded based on free and reduced meal eligibility rates.
Additionally, families that qualify may receive discounted or waived fees for programs inside and outside of the school district. Applications are available to all households at school sites and online at linqconnect.com. Applications need to be completed annually (after mid-July) for the new school year. The information provided on the application is confidential and is not shared without your consent. Paper forms are available in the school office.
Student Handbook
The 2026-2027 Student Handbook is available here. If you would like a paper copy of the handbook, you may request one by calling the front office at 970-613-7500.
