Homecoming Assembly Fun!
Bullying & Harassment Discussions
Thank you to Deputy K and our team of mental health professionals for the panel discussion with students this week! Each grade level spent an hour discussing our building policies and expectations around bully/harassment, cybersafety, threats, and overall student welfare. We ended the discussions with a challenge: each student should give a compliment to someone they don’t usually talk to.
Math Class Fun
Ms. Leanna's 8th grade class have been working together to define transformations by their graphs, tables, descriptions, and algebraic representations. See pictures from our class-wide matching competition where students worked in groups to interpret transformations in various forms.
Celebrating Art Contest Winners
HMS has 14 students whose artwork has won the Celebrating Art Contest, and they have all been chosen for a national publication called "Celebrating Art". The book features the best K-12 artwork from around the country.
To celebrate their achievement, I will highlight a few students each week until all have been honored. This week, the highlighted artists will be Brooklynn Weenum & Grace Lopez-Valdivia.
Because the publication contest was in the summer, some of the students have already moved onto 9th grade.
Please help me congratulate the following HMS students for their achievement:
Molly DenBraber
Kimberly Deweerd
Allie Glupker
Olivia Halloran
Olivia Herremans
Josie Hiemstra
Preston Koski
Grace Lopez-Valdivia
Keagan Shanahan

K-9 in Law Enforcement
Mrs. Pulaski's 8th grade Law Enforcement class had a special visit from Deputy Sceech and his K-9 partner, Zadok. Deputy Sceech explained how he and Zadok work together as a team and described the training a police dog goes through to serve the community. He talked about the jobs K-9 units do, such as tracking missing people, finding evidence, and detecting drugs, and how Zadok uses his powerful sense of smell to help officers do things they couldn’t do alone. Students watched Zadok follow commands and saw how much trust and communication the partnership depends on. They also asked questions about Zadok’s daily routine, how he lives with Deputy Sceech when he’s off duty, and what it takes to become a K-9 handler. The visit gave our students a close look at an important part of law enforcement, and they won’t soon forget meeting Zadok!
HMS Baseball
There are Tryouts/Evaluations for MS 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade baseball teams. We are running the tryouts/evaluations to see how many kids are interested in the spring, and to give parents time to cover the cost of MS baseball expenses. This also gives Mr. O'Dell a better idea of the number of teams we can have for MS this year. If we have enough players willing to participate, then we can have three different teams.
