We Are Blessed
As I was thinking about this year's Catholic Schools Week, I was reflecting on the fact that I have spent the majority of my professional life in Catholic Education. I know that is also true of other members of the St. Ignatius staff, and I know that many of you have been immersed in Catholic Education for many years, as students when you were in school, in addition to the years you have invested as parents.
The Gospel reading today is from the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. It is the best known passage from the Sermon on the Mount - the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes help us to know what God desires for us so that we can be blessed, so that we can be happy.
As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, let us remember all the blessings of Catholic Education - not only faith, excellence, and service, but community, friendship, dedication, family, and God's ever present guidance. Let us remember that God sends us many signs, and those of us who are immersed in Catholic Education know that those signs are around us every day, in our classmates, in our teachers, in our prayers, and in our families. Let us pray this week that we will always be aware of the signs that God sends us through the people in our lives and the experiences that we have, and that we will listen with attentiveness to the many ways that God speaks to us and blesses us, each and every day.
Catholic Schools Week Saints
Saint Thomas Aquinas, who was born in the year 1225 and died in the year 1274, was an Italian Catholic philosopher and theologian. He is considered by the Catholic Church to be its greatest theologian, and he is one of the thirty-three Doctors of the Church. St. Thomas was a member of the Order of St. Dominic. He wrote many books and taught at different universities. He is the patron saint of students.
Here is a prayer that St. Thomas Aquinas wrote; please take a moment to say this prayer.
Grant me,
O Lord my God,
a mind to know you,
a heart to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
conduct pleasing to you,
faithful perseverance in waiting for you,
and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen.
Please be on the lookout for a short biography and a prayer for each of the saints that we are highlighting this Catholic Schools Week!

Important Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
If you need to pick up your son or daughter prior to regular dismissal time, please be sure to pick up no later than 2:15 pm, in order to keep all of our dismissals flowing smoothly.
Car drop off begins at 8 am. If you do not see a school staff member in the drop off area, please do not drop off your child or children and leave them outside the doors under the blue canopy; please wait until a staff member comes out and opens the doors.
For car drop off, please stay in the drop off line and do not drive around the car in front of you. Wait until the car in front of you pulls forward before you pull forward.
For car drop off, please do your best to make sure your child is ready to exit the car when you pull up and stop. Especially if you are the first car in line, please drive away once your child is out of the car and your car door is closed. This will help with the flow of traffic in the car drop off line.
For car pick up, please wait until the school staff member gives the signal for your line of cars to pull out and drive out of the parking lot before starting to drive away.
For Pre-K drop off and pick up, please follow the procedures, leaving the lanes with cones at the ends empty for parents to drive out once they have walked their Pre-K students to the Pre-K building. Please take extra care as you are driving, parking, and leaving after Pre-K drop off and pick up.
If you have someone dropping off or picking up your child that has not dropped off or picked up at St. Ignatius before, please inform them of the procedures so that there will be no issues.
