Winter Weather Update
Last week, Superintendent DeAugustine shared a message with all district families regarding our current number of snow days and the plan should additional weather related school closures occur. I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that if school is closed again due to weather, additional instructional days may need to be added in June.
At this time, the last scheduled day of school is June 5. If additional days are required, they would simply be added to the following week. Our exam schedule would remain the same, with exams taking place during the final four days of school.
Please note that this will not impact seniors. Their last day of school is scheduled for May 15, and graduation will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 7:00 PM.
We are hopeful that Mother Nature cooperates and no additional days will need to be added. However, living in the U.P., the weather can always be unpredictable. I will continue to keep everyone informed of any schedule changes as they occur.
All my best,
Mr. Fossitt

On Friday, March 20th, all 8th grade students from Aspen Ridge will head to Westwood for a special visit! During their time at WHS, students will meet teachers, explore different classes and programs, and get a preview of what high school life will be like when they transition next fall.
They’ll have the chance to chat with teachers and current students, ask questions, and even learn their way around the building. It’s a great opportunity to start feeling comfortable and excited about the next step in their school journey.
This is always a fun and exciting day for the staff at WHS, as we get to meet and welcome our future Patriots!

Local Families Needed to Host International Exchange Students
Families in our community are invited to open their homes and hearts to an international exchange student next school year. Hosting a student is a unique opportunity to share your daily life and culture while learning about another part of the world. Exchange students arrive with their own spending money, health insurance, and a desire to become part of an American family.
You don’t need to be a typical “nuclear” family to host—single parents, couples, and families with or without children can all provide a welcoming home. By hosting, you’ll build lifelong friendships and help create global understanding, one family at a time.
If you’re interested in learning more about becoming a host family, contact your local exchange program today and help give a student a true home away from home.

NWEA Testing
Students in grades 9 and 10 have begun taking the NWEA assessments, which measure growth in science, reading, and mathematics. These assessments provide valuable insight into student learning and will be administered again in March to track academic progress throughout the school year. See the link below for more information on the NWEA.
New this year is the Patriot Press website where you can access the digital version. Go to

Student Handbook
We encourage both parents and students to read the student handbook carefully. It provides important information about school expectations, rules, and available resources, helping everyone understand their rights, responsibilities, and how to create a safe, respectful, and successful learning environment together.
