🌱 Happening Now 🌱

Small supplies make a real difference. The PTSA donated bottled water and bags for ice to Sligo's health room. They may not be glamorous, but they are exactly the kind of everyday supplies students need—and the kind staff too often end up buying themselves. This is what your support makes possible.

The regional-program meeting slides are ready. Thank you to the families who joined Tuesday's PTSA meeting—and to Jeannie Franklin for answering questions about the new high-school regional programs and process. You can review Jeannie's presentation.

✨ Support the Work ✨

Pick a Fitness Fun Day volunteer shift. Fitness Fun Day is an all-outdoor event that encourages a healthy lifestyle and raises money for Sligo. Sign up to help on November 5 or 6. Volunteers must have completed the MCPS online volunteer training within the last two years.

Keep the Fitness Fun Day fundraising pages moving, too. If your student does not have one yet, create a fundraising page and invite family and friends to support Sligo.

The nurse's office needs sweatpants. Please donate clean, used sweatpants in adult sizes S–L. Reply to this email or drop them off in the nurse's office.

Nando's can turn dinner into PTSA support. On Wednesday, October 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Nando's at 924 Ellsworth Drive will donate 40% of eligible purchases to the PTSA. For table orders, scan the QR code and enter NANDOS2026. At the counter, tell the cashier that you are supporting the fundraiser and provide the code. On the Nando's website or app, enter the code at checkout. Orders through third-party services such as DoorDash or Grubhub do not count.

Shop at Fenwick Beer and Wine and support Sligo. Fenwick Beer and Wine at 1327 Fenwick Lane will give 10% of every purchase to the PTSA on Sunday, October 25, from noon to 7:00 p.m.. No code is needed, and you do not have to mention Sligo—but please thank the owner for supporting our community!

MCPS Weekly Update

MCPS Weekly Update

Enrollment in MCPS is declining for the first time in more than 40 years. As a result, some schools have more available space than they need, while other communities are still growing. That means it’s time to take a thoughtful, countywide look at how we are using our schools and facilities and plan for a better future for all students.

October 19-23 is Digital Citizenship Week, which is recognized as a time to promote discussions and activities that educate school communities about the importance of using technology in a responsible, safe, and ethical manner. MCPS students have the opportunity to earn SSL hours by watching Digital Citizenship videos and submitting a digital reflection form starting October 19th until October 23rd. Visit the MCPS Digital Citizenship page to access the videos and the digital reflection form.

Safety Reminders Safety Reminders

Each morning and afternoon, many buses, cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians will be arriving at and departing from our campus. It is essential that everyone moves slowly, remains alert, and makes safety a priority during arrival and dismissal.

As outlined in the summer letter, the car drop-off area is located on the side of the building. Cars should not enter the bus loop directly in front of the school during arrival or dismissal, and students should not be dropped off on Dennis Avenue. All pedestrians should use the designated crosswalk.

MCPS is implementing a new cellphone regulation this school year that will help students stay focused and connected in the classroom. All personal mobile devices will be expected to be put away for all grade levels during the academic day — from the first bell through dismissal. This action is expected to result in fewer disruptions and help students stay engaged in learning. If you are interested in learning more, you can read the following FAQ.
