Important Reminders and Information

October 9, 2025
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
The ALCS community hopes that you enjoy your extended weekend away from school, and please remember that tomorrow is N.E.O.E.A. Day with no class for students and staff. The purpose of this email is to share a few important reminders and information with our school family.
Celebrating our Principals During October!
On behalf of our entire school community, please join me in recognizing our principals and assistant principals during the month of October, when we all celebrate National Principals Recognition Month. The educational and operational leadership they provide is equal only to the care and compassion that our wonderful principals and assistant principals demonstrate with our students and staff. Thank you to our principals as a most valued and highly important part of our Avon Lake City Schools team.
Reminder of New Policies Regarding E-Bikes and Football Game Attendance
While our football community prepares for the home contest this week versus North Ridgeville tomorrow evening, please keep in mind a few policy changes that have been recently implemented to improve the overall experience and safety of all fans and spectators.
- All e-bikes equipped with a throttle are prohibited from school campuses.
- Students in grades PreK–6 must enter the game with their parents and remain with them throughout the duration of the game in the home stands.
- Students in grades 7 and 8 will remain in the bleachers in the West Endzone.
- Once a student leaves the game area, re-entry will not be permitted.
Our administrative team will be overseeing parental accompaniment at the door tomorrow evening, and please be advised that those falling short of compliance will not be permitted to enter the game. Thank you for your understanding and your support in ensuring the safety of all students and attendees.
Bond Sale Prompts Positive Reaction
The bond sale opening last Wednesday received a tremendously positive response overall, as the district received $343.7 million in orders, which is 4 times more than available. We are thankful for such amazing support, as the purchase of a sizable portion of these bonds came from a local investment group. Your trust and faith are very much appreciated, and the Avon Lake City Schools will work hard to make good on this investment for a new generation of ALCS learners!
Erieview Sale to City of Avon Lake
Many in the community will be pleased to learn that Erieview Elementary School, including the property and various other items and equipment still inside the building, will be sold to the City of Avon Lake for their future use, pending Board of Education and City Council approval. The BOE will vote on the sale at this coming Tuesday’s meeting. The sale will also require the requisite number of readings and passage by Avon Lake City Council as well. We’re happy that Erieview and its property will remain a public asset to be creatively repurposed for the City’s use. Surplus items not kept by the City will be part of a public auction in the near future. Thank you to the City of Avon Lake for their continued partnership, and their desire to reimagine Erieview’s future use for the community’s benefit.
Congratulations Varsity Girls Tennis Players
The Avon Lake City Schools congratulates the following individuals for advancing to the District Competition: Kathleen Boatwright in singles, along with Malaya Marijan and Sarah Hughes in doubles. All the best in future competition, and excellent job representing the Avon Lake City Schools.
One Week Remaining for SOUPer Bowl Food Competition!
Finally, thank you to everyone who has played a role in donating to the SOUPer Bowl Contest donation drive with Avon. The annual contest between our rival schools culminates next Friday, October 17th, and we plan to finish strong. Please donate peanut butter, cereal, canned meats and fruits, and paper products, which can still all be delivered to drop-off locations at each of our school buildings before next Friday. See the nearby flyer for more information, and let’s finish strong in this friendly competition for such a great cause! Thank you all!
Thank you and have a fantastic long weekend!
Sincerely,
Joelle M. Magyar
Superintendent of Schools
Please Join Your School PTA!
Each of the Avon Lake City Schools has a Parent Teacher/Staff Association (PTA) that is very active and which works closely with the District, Parents, and Community of Avon Lake.
Please consider joining the PTA associated with the school that your child attends. If you have students in multiple buildings, it is best to join each building.
It’s a great way to get involved and to help support the teachers, staff, students, and community!
