Pirate Post 10/18/2025
Hello Piratesπ
π΄ββ οΈππThank you all for your focus and positive attitudes this past week. I know this time of year can feel like a grindβbetween busy schedules with extra curricular activities and last minute assignment preparation for parent teacher conferences. I truly appreciate the way our parents fight to keep student interest at the heart of our conversations. I am so appreciative of the work our parents do to keep their kids abreast with school expectations including getting homework turned in. I feel that together as a unified team, our parents, staff and pirates execute with patience, and purpose!

- District Lockdown: Law enforcement will be helping us with this. We will announce the lockdown practice at approximately 8:15 on Wednesday. Teachers will close and lock their doors. Turn lights off. Once doors are locked, everyone stays in the classroom. Teachers may resume teaching at that time, but they will not let anyone leave for the restroom until we announce that the lockdown is over.
- Parent-Teacher Conference change: We dismiss at 1:45 and start conferences at 4:00. Elementary starts their conferences at 3:00. We end at 8:00.
- Halloween Dance on October 30th - Students get to go to the dance if they have no F's and no suspensions this year.
- The Hope Squad Survey will be given on the 21st during advisory
- Halloween costumes: No blood/gore, no masks or face paint that covers the whole face, no weapons. We need to be able to see the face enough to recognize the student.
- For those who need bell schedule change information in advance, we will be doing bell schedule D (shown below) for both the 23rd and the 30th. This isn't perfect, but it keeps things simple.

Are You Ready for the SOUPer Bowl?
Souper Bowl Canned Food Drive!
It is that time of the year again for the canned-food drive! Minico's Student Council has asked for our help in supporting our community by encouraging students to bring in cans for those in need. The canned foods will go to the Outreach Program and other facilities distributed by our Mini-Cassia Christmas Council. The canned-food drive will begin at East Minico on Monday, October 13th, and will end on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 3:45 p.m. This will allow us on Thursday morning to count the cans and be ready for Minico to pick up the cans on Thursday, before parent-teacher conferences begin. The East Minico Student Council would like to make this drive a competition between advisories. Please encourage your students to bring cans to support this cause. The advisory with the most cans collected will receive a pizza party.
Finally, if you would like to do some sort of competition within your own classrooms or give extra credit to those students who bring canned goods to your class, you can choose to do that, too.
On Wednesday, October 22nd, we would ask that you bring your canned goods down at the end of advisory to Mrs. Merrill's office. Please have them counted when you bring them down. Actually, it would be helpful if you put your name, grade, and number of cans collected on your box of goods. Minico is really hoping for our support, as it is working together that makes this such a great community effort.
Also, tuna fish and peanut butter count as two. For example, if a student turns in one can of tuna fish, one jar of peanut butter, and one can of green beans, he/she get credit for 5 canned goods. Please check all expirations-- expired donations cannot be used, so they will not be able to be counted. Throw expired cans away, please.
