April 15, 2024

Week of April 15, 2024
Superintendent's Monday Magi Message
Happy Monday Magi Families
Happy Monday Magi Families,
Since spring may have finally sprung (for real), I wanted to use the introduction to this week's Magi Messenger to highlight some happenings in our athletics program. Congratulations to all of the student-athletes, parents, AD, and Coach Dooley for a successful first track meet. But, what I really wanted to highlight is that we have a ton of great matchups this week, but most are away, and we would love to see you as we cheer on the Magi. If you are interested in a home event, both softball and baseball are at home on Thursday.
Have a magical week,
Dr. Rachel Kowalski

Student Awards Ceremonies 2024
Attention Colon Elementary and Colon Jr/Sr High School families! Mark your calendars for our upcoming spring awards events! Save the dates now, and stay tuned for more detailed information from our principals. Let's celebrate our students' achievements together!
Eclipse in Colon Schools!
🌞🌑✨We had a great day with our students learning about solar eclipses. In Magi Focus, our Colon Jr/Sr High School students learned about the eclipse using a Nearpod, and many of our teachers taught lessons throughout the school day. As the eclipse unfolded, everyone stayed safe and mesmerized by the wonders of the universe. It was an experience to cherish! 🌞🌑✨
Big Congrats to Jake Walters, 3rd Grader
We are bursting with pride for our exceptional 3rd grader, Jake Walters! Today was an unforgettable day as we surprised Jake, with his Mom by our side, with the Special Education Student of the Year award... for the entire COUNTY! Presented by the St. Joseph County ISD Parent Advisory Committee. Jake, your determination, kindness, and spirit inspire us all. We couldn't be prouder of you!
There Is Love & Joy Everywhere, If You Look For It
Even on a major state testing day, we couldn't resist sharing this heartwarming moment! Landon and Mr. Martinson, who recently joined the CES team. Moments like these remind us of the joy and connection that make our schools, CHS, CES, LEO, and our community so special.
It also reminds the admin team, those working behind the scenes of our social media page, that you enjoy seeing the daily lives of our students and staff, and that is why we are working to share so many positive things happening in our buildings EACH and EVERY day.
Matt Overholt & Colon Fire Visit CHS For Cadet Program
What an inspiring visit we had yesterday at Colon Jr/Sr High School! Matt Overholt, Joe Rolin, and Cameron Wolf stopped by to share insights into their incredible Firefighter Cadet Program with Dr. Kowalski, Mrs. Wielenga, and Ms. Kevnick.
We were truly amazed by the dedication and effort poured into this program over the years. And what's even more thrilling? Seeing the outstanding job that Cadet Dane Borgert has done in the program! As we celebrated Dane's contributions, we couldn't resist capturing a picture of this dynamic team. It's moments like these that highlight the power of community programming in shaping the future of our students. Mrs. Kevnick will be working to recruit interested 16-18 year olds who may be interested in this great program! See her if you have any questions.
Dane- we are super proud of you!!!
Testing Brings A Little Peer Team-Building & R&R To 6th and 7th Grade
Today was a great day! While our older students were busy taking the SAT and PSAT, our 6th and 7th graders had a blast with a day filled with fun team-building activities. We wanted to ensure a quiet and secure testing environment for our 8th graders and high schoolers, so we planned a day of creativity and bonding. From outdoor games to arts and crafts, including sidewalk chalk creations, coloring sessions, tic-tac-toe, and even a water balloon toss, it was not an ordinary or traditional field day! It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with their peers and our staff members while ensuring the best environment for their older peers.
A huge shoutout goes to Ms. Sonia Kevnick for her outstanding efforts in organizing this day! Ms. Kevnick, your dedication to our students doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you for all that you do to make our school a welcoming and enriching environment!
Even More Upgrades Thanks To The Community
Thanks to the support of our incredible community, once again, we've been able to put our sinking fund to fantastic use for the benefit of our students. One project we're thrilled to highlight is the recent addition of a new and updated setup for our baseball and softball fields, complete with brand-new sound systems designed and installed by Acorn! Your continued support fuels our commitment to excellence, enabling us to create excellent experiences for our students, families, and the entire community. We're making great things happen!
More Middle School Fun W/MSP
Check out these snapshots from our 6th and 7th-grade activities this past Wednesday! We had an exciting visit from the Michigan State Police at Colon Jr/Sr High School. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to collaborate and learn from these amazing individuals. Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a memorable day!
