Hi Alta Families,

We had 11 out of 25 families attend our second parent night. I promised some resources from that evening and I will send them in a separate email. I am very pleased with our turn out, participation and am excited for our next one.

Thank you for your flexibility in moving our canyon day to Monday. You will find an updated packing list below. I will be at a Math Conference Tuesday - Friday next week. Mrs. Jensen, district administrator and our PEAK teacher will be on call if a principal is needed. Our assistant superintendent, James Howell is also on call. I will be checking my email and phone, Ms. Vicky will be teaching my groups next week.

Best Wishes,

Jenna

What Happens for Halloween at the Alta School? What Happens for Halloween at the Alta School?

  • On Friday Oct. 30, all children are welcome to wear their costume to school. Weapons need to be left at home. Full face masks may be worn for the parade and trunk or treat.

  • At 8am, we will have a whole school parade. Parents are welcome to come at morning drop off and line the hallways. The 4th and 5th graders will start the parade walking through the 2nd and 3rd grade class and then picking up the kindergarten and 1st grade class. The kids will walk to the Eagle feather case and then walk back to their classrooms. The purpose of the parade is for everybody to have a chance in the morning to show off their costumes.

  • Following the parade, our 5th graders will be hosting a haunted gym, which we call Ghost Town. Each class will have an opportunity to walk through the gym. Parents are welcome to walk through ghost town with your child. Nobody has to go through Ghost Town it is 100% voluntary. Children can go with their parents or with their class. They can also have the choice to go through Ghost Town with the lights on or off.

  • At 1:45, we will start Trunk or Treating in the parking lot. Families should be ready to pass out candy at 1:45. You are welcome to come early to set up your car.

  • Following Trunk or Treat, we will have games in front of the school. Our PTO will be setting up games. We need 3 more people to help run the games.

  • School is dismissed at 2:40pm.

  • A 2nd grader's family is offering their house as a launching point for Treat or Treating in Targhee Towne. Please see the Alta Elementary School PTO Facebook page for more information.

Meet our 4/5 th grade Peackeepers

Our 4th and 5th graders participated in a mentoring and problem solving training this Monday morning. PeaceKeepers lead a morning game at recess, hold the doors open, check in with kids who need someone to play with and solve minor playground problems. If your child is struggling with something at recess, tell them to check in with a PeaceKeeper.

ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT : Academics

This month our CARES focus is on Academics. Mr. B is teaching about the logical and emotional brain. Mrs. Beck is teaching about having our attention flow from out and in and noticing how the differences feel in our body. Classroom teachers are focusing on what smart students do. Throughout the school, we are all teaching kids to try something. Instead of sitting, stuck waiting for an adult, we say try something. Same can go at home, if your child doesn't know what to do and is waiting for your attention, "Try Something" is an easy cue to remind children they have power and can figure out what to do on their own.

RESOURCES FOR YOU 🤗

Parent Guidance is a free resource provided by our district. You can access:

  • Free parent coaching
  • Evidence based courses
  • Ask a therapist questions

My husband and I used the parent coaching for 2 years. It brought us together on our parenting and a new level of understanding and empathy for one another. The parent coach listened to our frustrations and concerns, guided us in the next right step and held us accountable to try out the new strategies.

The process is simple.

  • Go to parentguidance.org
  • Choose the parent coaching tab
  • Choose Get Started
  • Select Wyoming
  • Select Teton County School District
  • Register and you will get an email to get started.
