The Seward Park Campus Library Newsletter
Our Hours!
Welcome to the library! You are welcome to join us before school, during lunch (please eat your lunch upstairs, though), and afterschool. During class hours, be sure to sign in at the front desk laptop of with your phone using the QR code by the sign in. If you need more time afterschool, you can head right over to the Seward Park Library which has a special teen section and later hours. It's right across Seward Park at 192 East Broadway.
HOURS:
Mon - Wed 8:45am - 3:30pm
Thurs - Fri 10am - 4:30pm
We have interns!
Our newest and most exciting news is that we are now fully staffed with interns for every period of the day. These interns are being trained to do the various functions of the library, so do not be surprised if you see an intern helping you with the printer, checking out your books, or giving you a tour of the library. In fact, here is the first little tour video they've prepared for us.
Reading Time!
Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month!
Check out our Hispanic/Latinx collection both in-person and online on Sora!
It's Election Season!
Find out how we America! Books about voting, democracy, and our rights are just in time to help you for election season. You can also register to vote! New York State is a pre-election state meaning you can register to vote at age 16, though you cannot vote until you turn 18. https://www.nycvotes.org/how-to-vote/register-to-vote/
Short Story Collections!
Pressed for time? Try a short story collection. Our interns have pulled some out for you to browse, but you can see more in the nonfiction section under the call number 808.83...though I'm slowly pulling them into the fiction section by the author's last name.
Library Card Sign Ups
Did you know that you can sign up for a library card at all three of our city borough systems: New York Public Library (NYPL) which serves the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, Queens Public Library (QPL), and Brooklyn Public Library (BPL)? Sign up for a digital card at the links below. Additionally come to the circulation desk if you'd like to sign up for an NYPL card. We have them in stock, and they only require a week's time to activate!

Music Recording and Podcast Studio!
Welcome to Spark Studios!
We have a music and podcast recording studio! Our music recording studio schedule is still being worked out, but our podcast studio is ready to record.
Do you have a show you'd like to record? A conversation with friends that has the potential to go viral? Do you want to interview someone? Spark Studios is waiting for you!
The Circulation Desk is a podcast by me, Mina Leazer, a high school librarian, trying to reframe the conversation about libraries, librarians, and what we do.

Available for both staff and students, book club is an awesome way to get together and talk. Sometimes you start with the book, and then start delving into all of the topics that it brings up, so swing by to choose your next book club book!
Mahjong Club
Due to a generous donation of mahjong sets, we will now be hosting a mahjong club on Fridays at 3:30pm! Beginners through experts are welcome!
Learn how to use Sora!
There are over 1 million ebooks and audiobooks available on Sora! Read what you want when you want it! Please make sure you know your DOE login and password, or ask your school secretary how to reset your password!
Community Connections
The Moth
The Moth is an amazing storytelling organization that looks to empower people with the ability to tell their stories in order to build empathy and community! We'd love to host a residency here!
Are you:
- In 10-12th grade?
- Able to commit to 2 hrs a week afterschool for 8 weeks?
- Willing to share your story (don't worry, they'll teach you how)?
- Wanting to build a community of peers?
Moth Story Lab
Join us to develop, practice and share your very own personal story! The Moth Story Lab is a free, out-of school storytelling workshop for high school students (grades 10-12). This 8-week workshop teaches the art and craft of true, personal storytelling (including games, brainstorming, and story crafting) and culminates in a final share. It's a wonderful opportunity to develop and share a story from your life, whether it be for yourself, friends, the family dinner table, or even a starting point for your college essay.
Virtual and in person options are available. In Person workshops will take place at The Moth offices at 75 Broad Street in Manhattan (in the financial district)
Fall storytelling workshops kick off on October 7! For more information (and schedule specifics), visit our website here http://themoth.org/education. If you have any questions, please email
education@themoth.org.
