Keeping the Crew up to Date! Volume 2 Issue 8- 10/15/23

From the HelmKeeping the Crew up to Date! Volume 2 Issue 8-10/15/23

Greetings Clipper Nation!

This week, on the morning announcements, I shared with the student body my disappointment and frustration about the fight from the week before. I let them know that I have requested several students not return. It is unfortunate that a few students have also painted a negative perception for our community. However, I reminded students that I love JMB, I love them, and I know that those students involved last week do not represent ALL of the students at JMB. I also explained that attending school at JMB means "Sailing the Clipper Way." Anyone who distracts from that will receive consequences or potentially be removed from the school. We will not tolerate behavior that creates safety concerns or is violent. I consider fighting an act of violence. I reminded students that if they have a conflict, we have social workers and counselors who can help navigate conflict with other students. If you, as a parent, know your student is struggling, please reach out. I have included the names and emails of our counselors, admin, and social workers.

Just a few reminders as we come to the end of the first term, which is around the corner. November 7th is the official end of term 1 / quarter 1.

Please encourage your student to stay focused on completing work to ensure quality grades at the end of the term. Anyone who plans to participate in a winter sport must have a 2.0 at the end of term 1.

If students miss 5 or more unexcused days, their grades will turn to E's until they earn them back through attendance recovery. Attendance recovery will take place after school through the Step-Up program. Link to Form: https://forms.gle/8ydwgC7cSPxBYNww9

College Essay Support for Seniors:

We have good news for seniors who are working on their college essays! Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Cahall are ready to review your college essays and provide feedback starting on Monday, October 2 – Sunday, December 31.

Here’s how it works:

You will need to email either Mrs. Taylor or Ms. Cahall (both are JMB English teachers) letting them know you would like them to review your essay. They will add you in on the assignment on Google Classroom where all communication about your essay will occur. At that point, you will upload your essay, the writing prompt or question that you are responding to along with any questions or comments about the essay you have sent.

Contact information for Participating JMB Teachers:

Mrs. Chelsea Taylor: chtaylor@wcboe.org

Ms. Jennifer Cahall: jcahall@wcboe.org

Of course, if there is another teacher you would like to review your essays you are welcome to contact them, but Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Cahall are the teachers that are part of this project. They are looking forward to reading your essays and supporting you through this process!
