News from Candice
Hello Cougar Families!
Cheers to another great week of learning, fun, and loving everyone here at Copper Mesa! I hope you are all enjoying this cooler weather. We appreciate your positive attitudes during our lightning dismissals. We know it can be challenging, but we love seeing your faces in our building!
Thank You, CME PTO!
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out last Friday for our Back to School Night. It was so wonderful to see our community come together to socialize and have fun!
A special shout-out to our amazing PTO, who volunteered so much of their time to organize and run this fantastic event. They are now moving on to the Fall Fundraiser, and we are excited to work with a new company that will give us 85-95% of the money raised, compared to only about half in the past. To make this a success, the PTO is looking for more volunteers to help out between now and September 19th! Please visit their website for more information.
Wellness Wednesdays
As part of our theme—"have some fun"—we are implementing Wellness Wednesdays! Starting next week, students and staff are encouraged to wear athleisure wear every Wednesday. We will have a weekly mental or physical health challenge for everyone to participate in that day. We hope you as a family will join us in engaging in healthy habits at home as well!
iReady Testing
The state of Colorado requires us to use a state-approved interim assessment given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. The assessment we use is iReady for math and reading, and our students have begun their beginning-of-year assessments this week.
This data helps inform teachers where each student is starting out, allowing for more personalized instruction. iReady adjusts as the student takes it to find their just-right level of learning. We are so proud of our kiddos as they persevere through this assessment. If you have any questions, please reach out to their teachers.

Lightning Dismissal! - IMPORTANT TO KNOW! If you get a text/email and phone call regarding lightning dismissal, (after the bell has rung) you will go directly to your student's classroom and sign them out with their teacher. You must be over the age of 18 to check out a student! If a neighbor or relative is picking up your student, they must be on the Early Dismissal Form that you will fill out in Express Check In. Students already signed up for BASE will report directly to BASE. BASE registration is free and is a good option on these days if you are running late or can’t find someone to pick up your child. If this is a good option for you, please pre-register for BASE.
PICTURE DAY -
In about two weeks, we’ll receive the picture proofs and send them home with your student, along with details on how to place an order.
At the same time, Van Gogh will also send an email directly to families with a link to view your student’s picture and ordering information.
Orders can be placed online, and the final pictures will be shipped directly to your home! Reminder, you can change the background of your student's photo before you order!
Picture retake day is 9/25.
