Strong Start to the School Year & New Attendance Notification Updates
Thank you for helping us get off to a great start! We are already seeing incredible enthusiasm from our students and staff, and our new classroom policies, including the D300 cell phone policy, are already helping create a focused, safe, and supportive learning environment.
To help keep your children safe and ensure you stay informed, we have updated our automated attendance alerts this year. Parents now receive real-time notifications at the end of any class period if a student is marked absent.
What You Need to Know About Attendance Alerts:
Real-Time Updates: These instant alerts help us partner with you to confirm your student's whereabouts as quickly as possible.
Late Arrivals & System Timing: If your student arrives late to class, you might still receive an automated message before the teacher has a chance to update the system.
How to Confirm: If you receive a notification for just one period but no further alerts the rest of the day, it usually means the attendance was updated and your child is safely in class.
Check PowerSchool Anytime: You can always view live attendance records by logging into your PowerSchool account. If you ever have concerns, feel free to call our main office.
Thank you for your partnership in encouraging regular attendance and supporting your student's success!
Fall iready testing
The week of August 24th, HMS will begin its Fall iReady testing. Students will complete their Math iReady Test on Tuesday, August 25th and their Reading iReady Test on Thursday, August 27th. On iReady testing dates we will use this bell schedule. Please take some time to review this bell schedule with your student. Makeups will be completed throughout the next week. It is expected that students have a charged Chromebook and something to work on quietly if they complete their testing early. Our goal is for students to do the best they can on this test.
Seeking Guest Speakers for AVID!
We’re looking for community members and professionals to speak with our 6–8 AVID students! Guest speakers can share their career journey, experiences, advice, and insights to help students explore future possibilities and see the many paths available to them. We have availability throughout the 2026-2027 school year for speakers to present on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays!
Interested in being a guest speaker? Please complete this Google Form or email Lexi Dahlberg (alexis.dahlberg@d300.org).
We’d love to connect with you and help inspire our students!
A Message From The HMS Student Services Team
Greetings HMS Parents & Guardians!
This week we encourage you to try these simple tips for back to school success:
1. Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
2. Get Organized: Prepare clothes, lunches, charged chromebooks and backpacks the night before.
3. Start the day with a healthy breakfast.
4. Designate a spot at home for afterschool study and homework.
5. Stay Connected: Communicate with teachers, check in on homework and celebrate your students' progress! “Every child deserves a champion.”
Kindly, The HMS Student Services Team
Be prepared
As we jump into another busy week of learning, we need your help with a quick daily routine that makes a massive difference in your student's success: coming to school fully prepared with a charged Chromebook.
Our daily lessons rely heavily on digital learning tools, group collaboration, and online assignments. When a student arrives with a dead battery or without their chromebook, it disrupts their learning momentum and makes it tough to keep up with class activities.
How You Can Help at Home:
Establish a Charging Station: Set up a dedicated spot at home where your student plugs in their Chromebook every night before going to bed.
Pack the Charger: Encourage your child to keep their charger in their backpack daily. If their battery runs low, having their own charger ensures they stay connected without hassle.
Daily Readiness Check: A quick morning reminder to check for their device, charger, and basic supplies (pencils, notebooks) sets them up for a stress-free day.
Thank you so much for partnering with us to build these great responsibility habits. When students show up prepared, they feel confident and ready to conquer the day!
