Childhood Development Academy
From Visual Arts and Ceramics
Students in Ceramics I are learning the basics of ceramic building, understanding clay bodies, the science of firing ceramic works, and have learned modeling and carving techniques that they have applied to a ceramic slab. Next, we are learning about functional ceramics by creating a pinch pot vessel with their choice of creative direction and design.
Students in Advanced Photoshop are reviewing the photoshop tools by creating their own custom trading cards that depict subjects that are important to their self identity. In addition, students are creating two trading cards by researching and writing a synopsis of famous artists of their choice. Next, we will print the trading cards, and share them with the class!
Academy of Engineering
Introduction to Engineering Design: This week students began learning how to use computer aided design (CAD). We built on last week's hand sketching exercises by making digital sketches, which can in turn be used to make solid models on the computer. In the following photos we see Brendan Rivera and Danny Cardoza, and Josh Burgess and Jason Oullette collaborating to troubleshoot a particularly difficult challenge.
Computer integrated Manufacturing: Over the last week, completed their woodshop tool testing, demonstrating the ability to use every machine safely and skillfully. This will allow us to start instructing objects from wood in the upcoming week. In the photo below, we see Carson Rinaldi instructing newer students on how to use the (powered down) lathe.
Academy of Biomedical Science and HOSA
This year we are competing in HOSA’S Community Awareness event with a topic of Mental Health and Burnout in First Responders! Help show your support for struggling first responders! Wear teal and purple on Friday, September 26th in honor of Suicide Prevention Month. Thank you for your support!

Personal Electronic Device (PED) (Cellphone) DRAFT Policy at Scituate High
New Cell Phone Policy: "Away for the Day" This School Year
As we kick off the new school year, Scituate High School will be implementing a new district-wide cell phone policy aligned with the recently passed Rhode Island legislation banning cell phone use in schools. Starting this year, student cell phones will not be allowed in classrooms during the school day.
This shift reflects our commitment to creating a focused, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Research continues to show that when phones are away for the day, students are more present, less distracted, and better able to connect with their peers and teachers. This new policy supports both academic success and student well-being.
We know that adjusting to this change will take time, and we appreciate your partnership as we work together to prioritize learning, focus, and healthy habits for all students. More details on the policy and implementation procedures will be shared during the first week of school.
Let’s make this year one where we are truly connected—to our learning, to each other, and to what really matters.
Check out our website for more cellphone and PED info!

Athletic Events from RIIL
The Principals Committee on Athletics (PCOA) and the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) with the support of the Rhode Island School Superintendents Association (RISSA) are asking each school to please take some time to review the attached sportsmanship documents and download the NFHS Sportsmanship Toolkit as valuable resources in planning for the upcoming regular season games and championship tournament events.
Please be reminded that as a host school, there is a responsibility to welcome visiting schools and the officials into a safe and respectful environment prior to, during and after these school events.
We must also recognize and support our Athletic Directors, who have an increasingly difficult task in administering athletic events where larger crowds are expected. In these situations, it takes a proactive team approach from each school's administration to effectively deal with any issues that may pop up on the field or in the stands.
Sportsmanship, whether good or bad is a learned behavior so spectator expectations must continually be emphasized, promoted and enforced. Sadly, it’s a constant battle! In particular, ugly displays of personal, verbal attacks against officials, coaches and the opposing team’s students can quickly escalate into embarrassing and potentially dangerous situations.
Points of Emphasis….
- We have seen an increase in Coaches dissent toward game officials this fall. Please remind your Coaches that they play a critical role in supporting and enhancing good sportsmanship in an educational environment. The coach serves as a role model for players, parents and the spectators. The coach must always be in control, model sound values and ethics and always pursue victory with honor and respect toward game officials and opponents.
- Please also make sure that visiting schools and the officials are greeted when they arrive and a supervision plan is in place to escort teams and officials to safely enter, participate, and exit the facility at the end of the event without harassment.
Thanks for your continued efforts to work together to improve and promote these sportsmanship initiatives and best of luck to your teams!!
