Safety of all students and staff is a top priority at Tawanka, and so we have strict safety procedures in place. A reminder of the following:

Building Entry: All visitors must scan their driver's license or state issued ID at the kiosk in the front vestibule and wait for entry. This is required at every visit, or access will be denied.

Early Dismissals: Please notify the teacher if your child will be picked up early. If being picked up by someone other than a parent/guardian, please specify who will be picking up your child. Students will only be released to individuals listed on the emergency card, but the office must be notified prior to pick-up. Students must be signed out in the main office. Again, driver's license or state issued ID is required to pick up a student. We strongly encourage early dismissals be no later then 3:00pm.

Federal Programs & Title I Annual Meeting Federal Programs & Title I Annual Meeting

A sincere thank you the parents and guardians that attended the Federal Programs Overview , Tawanka Elementary School Title I Annual Meeting and Parent Advisory Council Meeting on Thursday, October 14th. To accommodate busy schedules, we offered two meetings this year: 1) daytime in person meeting 2) nighttime virtual meeting. Parents that participated had the opportunity to learn about NSD Federal Programs, the Tawanka Title I program and hear about Parent Advisory functions in the review and revision of the following documents: Tawanka's Title I Parent & Family Engagement Policy and Home-School Compact. Additionally, parents provided feedback for these documents via the Title I Family Input Form. Family participation in the development of these plans is valuable and essential. The only way our efforts will have meaningful impact is to ensure that you, the families and caregivers, understand how your collaboration with the school will benefit student success. Please click on the links below to view the documents. Reach out to any of the Tawanka reading specialists (Mrs. Gross, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Gansor) if you have any feedback or questions.

Miss Trotta's Class

Kindergarten has been learning about different kinds of wood during Science! Some kinds of wood come right from a tree while other woods are made in a factory. Miss Trotta's class used a mixture of wood shavings, sawdust, and a special glue to create their own particleboard in class. All scientists had a great time!

Second graders celebrated their positive behavior with a Reward Stuffed Animal Day! Their stuffed friends got to join them for a day of learning and fun!

Second Grade reached out to our families and "met" veterans that are a part of the Tawanka family. We loved getting to see pictures of our veterans and learning what branches they served in. Additionally, we got to practice our math skills by figuring out how long each veteran served. Each veteran received thank you cards from us!

Meet Our substitute P.E. Teacher Meet Our substitute P.E. Teacher

Mr. Wright, our beloved PE teacher, is currently out on medical leave for donating one of his kidneys to a person in need! Don't worry, he's coming back to school sometime in January. In the meantime, please welcome Mr. Wright's replacement, Ray Horn!

Mr. Horn

Hi everyone, just a little bit about me; I grew up locally in Upper Southampton and graduated from William Tennent High School. After earning my degree from Penn State, I worked in a few school districts and taught at Maple Point Middle School last year. When I am not teaching, I am coaching basketball. I love the 76ers, Flyers and Duke Basketball! I am having a great time teaching here at Tawanka so far and am excited to keep going!

P.E. with Mr. Horn

Last week, students were working on improving their throwing power, accuracy and form by participating in station activities such as Target Practice and Castle Takedown.
