Boulevard Weekly Update
Week of Monday, Aug 24 - Friday, Aug 28th, 2026
Principal's Message
1 Person 1% Better Everyday
Greetings Boulevard Team,
We are off to a great start! I have been so excited to visit classrooms and see the excitement on our students’ faces. I have also appreciated the positive feedback I’ve received from our specialists about the strong start they are seeing across the building.
Last week, I was able to give two shout-outs recognizing classes that were meeting expectations. I am equally excited about the invitations I’ve received to visit classrooms and see the great work happening throughout our building.
A few celebrations I want to highlight:
- Thank you, Ms. Debevec, for sharing your 10-Frames board. It looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see our students using it!
- The 1st Grade Fluency and High-Frequency Word Board is clarity work at its best. The visual supports and clear expectations provide students with exactly what they need to be successful.
- The Bump It Up Board in Ms. Cahn’s room is another great example of making learning visible and helping students understand how they can grow. Thank you for sharing the Coffee Bean! It is a wonderful story and reminder that we can transform an environment in postive ways even when it is challenging.
- Ms. Sferry, Ms. Kenealy, and Ms. Bradley are already bringing students together for Science Lab and collaboration. This type of intentional collaboration sets the tone for a high-achieving culture and demonstrates our commitment to giving students meaningful opportunities to learn together.
- Shout-out to our lunch paraprofessional team for practicing expectations with students and remaining alert and engaged throughout the lunch hour. We have more students on the playground at one time this year due to the schedule shift, so your attentiveness and consistency are especially important.
This Week:
As we continue into our next week, let’s keep practicing expectations, reinforcing routines, and building strong relationships. The first month of school is incredibly important. The routines and expectations we establish now will set the foundation for the rest of the year.
MAP Assessment Window
The MAP assessment window opens this week. Please review the testing calendar carefully. We will not begin MAP testing until after Labor Day with the exception of 4-5 Science. This intentional timing allows our students additional time to become comfortable with school, their teachers, classroom routines, and expectations before beginning assessments.
Please take a few minutes to review the testing calendar and make sure you are aware of your grade level’s testing dates.
Thank you for the energy, intentionality, and care you are bringing to Boulevard. The excitement in our classrooms is contagious, and it is clear that we are building something special together.
Let’s continue to Be Here, Be Ready, and Be Boulevard—and get 1% better every day!
Looking forward to a productive week ahead,
Joi
Curriculum Night
Preparing For Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night is Tuesday, August 25th, with classroom presentations from 5:30–7:00 p.m. Families are invited to stay for the BBQ from 7:00–7:45 p.m.
Please review the communication from Mrs. Mahoney and be sure to insert the provided slides into your presentation. The Student Code of Conduct (SCOC) Parent Presentation should also be shared with families during your first presentation session only.
A few important reminders:
- Families should sign in when they arrive in your classroom.
- Please encourage families to use the QR code for sign-in. A QR code will be provided.
- Consider making the sign-in process your first slide and have families complete it before beginning your presentation.
- Please be prepared to repeat your classroom presentation during each scheduled session so families with multiple children have an opportunity to attend.
Thank you for helping make Curriculum Night a welcoming and informative experience for our Boulevard families!
Preparing For MAP Assessments
As we prepare for MAP Assessments, please begin familiarizing students with the assessment process and available resources during the week of August 24th.
- Share the MAP student resources, including videos and practice tests, with students. These resources are excellent tools for helping students understand what to expect. The links are on the test planning document
- Plan with your grade-level team for how you will meet with students for individual goal setting after MAP assessments are administered.
- See Angela for additional student MAP resources and support.
- Review the MAP testing calendar and ensure you are aware of your grade level’s testing dates and expectations.
- MAP testing will be in indivdual classrooms.
Our goal is to ensure students feel prepared, confident, and understand that MAP is an opportunity to show what they know and set goals for their continued growth.
📆 TBT's
This week’s TBT focus will be on strengthening our essential agreements, reviewing TBT planning document, and clarifying expectations for BLT leaders. Teams will also have dedicated time to coordinate with specialists and identify classroom support needs. The goal is to ensure that TBTs remain focused, collaborative, and aligned to student learning and instructional needs.
OTES
This week, I will provide each staff member with OTES communication regarding your evaluation status, including whether you are participating in a full-cycle evaluation or whether your previous rating will be carried forward. This communication will clarify expectations and next steps for the 2026–2027 school year. Please complete PGP in OTES and individual goal setting meetings will be scheduled. Be sure to pin in OTES.
Non OTES Evaluations
All non-OTES evaluations will be completed and documented in Frontline. This includes all staff in the following categories: Classified 102, Classified 617, Ancillaries, and Monitors.
Please be sure to complete your goal setting as part of the evaluation process. Individual meetings will be scheduled to review goals, expectations, and next steps.
🗓 SEL Lessons
All SEL lessons will begin the week of September 7th, after Labor Day. Please review the building schedule carefully to identify your assigned lesson time. Lesson times will remain consistent and will not be changed. Ms. Spinks will continue to identify A Week and B Week on the Buzz to help everyone stay aligned with the schedule.
SEL is an important component of our Building One Plan and supports our commitment to building strong relationships, developing student skills, and creating a positive school culture. Thank you for making these lessons a consistent priority.
