Attendance
Attendance in elementary school is essential for academic success, skill development, and socialization. Regular attendance ensures children do not miss critical lessons, helping them perform better academically and develop foundational skills in reading, writing, and math. It also fosters social skills and friendships, establishes routine and discipline, and provides access to necessary support systems. Consistent attendance also encourages parental involvement and sets the stage for long-term educational and career success. Your children need to be at Hooper School all day, every day!
Safety Drills
The School Safety Drill Act requires that within the first 90 days of every academic year, we
conduct at least one law enforcement lockdown drill. This drill addresses a school shooting
incident and evaluates the preparedness of school personnel and students for situations
involving law enforcement when there is an active threat or an active shooter within a school
building. Please be assured that the lockdown drill:
- Does not include any simulations that mimic an actual school shooting incident or active
shooter event.
- Is announced in advance to all school personnel and students before it begins.
- Includes content that is age and developmentally appropriate,
- Includes and involves school personnel, including school-based mental health
professionals,
- Includes trauma-informed approaches to address the concerns and well-being of school
personnel.
- Permits students to ask questions related to it.
This year’s lockdown drill will take place the week of August 26th. If you do not want your
child to participate in the lockdown drill, please email:
Mr. Feldman at steve.feldman@district41.org
Student and Staff Shout-Outs
ALL Hooper students have the opportunity to receive a shout-out for any staff member. This
means they went above and beyond to do something for either a staff member, student, or
themselves. They then take these to the office and get to choose a bin to put
them in for a drawing which will be done every Friday.
Parents also have the opportunity to write a shout-out to any staff member. Parents just need
to email Mr. Feldman and let them know who they are giving a shout out to and for what
reason. Staff members who receive a shout out will receive a Goodie bag from Mr. Feldman.
Write-Ups
Hooper has Minors” and “Majors” Write-Up Forms. This is just a way for us to keep track of
students’ behaviors at school. If your child receives a “minor” write-up, then you will get an
email from your child's teacher. If your child receives 3 “minor” write-ups, then it would count
as a “major” and then myself or Mrs. Vinson will contact you directly. In certain more serious
cases, students might go straight to a “major”. If a child receives 3 or more minors or one
straight major, they will miss part of the end of the trimester celebration. During this time, they
will get retrained on what they got written up for.
Here are some examples of “minors” and “majors” (behaviors that will be targeted for
improvement):
- Defiance
- Disrespect
- Technology misuse
- Physical Contact
- Inappropriate language
- Inappropriate behavior in the bathroom
- Stealing
