Principal's Corner
Dear Hirsch Hawk Families,
We are officially in countdown mode for STAAR, and our students are gearing up for success with Camp Write-a-Lot! This week, our 3rd-5th graders will embark on an exciting academic adventure, sharpening their skills in writing, math, and (for 5th grade) science. Each grade level has its own unique camp theme:
🌊 3rd Grade – Camp Surf & Scribe – Our 3rd graders will ride the waves of learning, strengthening their writing and math skills like seasoned surfers mastering the ocean!
🚀 4th Grade – Space Camp: Math & Writing Beyond the Stars – Our 4th graders will launch into stellar writing and math strategies, exploring new frontiers of knowledge!
🏕️ 5th Grade – Camp Timber Text & STEM Trek – Our 5th graders will sharpen their writing and math skills deep in the academic wilderness while also rotating through hands-on science challenges to prepare for the STAAR Science test!
A huge thank you to all the parents who helped us transform our hallways and classrooms into immersive camp destinations! Your support makes all the difference, and we truly appreciate you.
📝 Test-Taking Tips for Parents
As we help our students build their confidence, here are a few ways you can support them at home:
âś… Practice writing and math daily. Have your child summarize their day in writing and work through a few math problems to keep their skills sharp.
✅ Use real-world math. Encourage problem-solving through everyday activities—measuring while cooking, estimating costs while shopping, or discussing time and schedules.
✅ Encourage science exploration. For 5th graders, discuss simple science concepts at home—observe the weather, talk about the water cycle, or conduct small experiments.
âś… Get plenty of rest. A well-rested brain is ready to think critically and problem-solve, so ensure your child gets enough sleep.
âś… Fuel up for focus. A nutritious breakfast will help your child stay energized and focused during testing.
âś… Stay positive! Remind your child that they are UNSTOPPABLE and capable of great things. A confident mindset makes all the difference!
We are excited for an engaging and productive week at Camp Write-a-Lot and look forward to seeing our students SOAR to success! Thank you for your continued support in helping them shine.
With gratitude,
Principal Patterson

Shout out to the following students for representing Hirsch Elementary School!
Congratulations to our 5th grade students, who earned a special trip to the Downtown Aquarium for their performance on the Benchmark Interim Assessments. This is a practice STAAR test that all 3rd-5th graders took in February. The grade level with the most students at the Meets and Masters level earned a special field trip. We're so proud of our 5th graders!
