Notes from the North Park Hive
A little BUZZ from the principal
Welcome back to school!
We hope that everyone had a restful and wonderful FALL BREAK. We are excited to welcome our students back on TUESDAY and take off on a wonderful 2nd quarter of school.
Be sure to check out the graphic about our pumpkin storybook family involvement opportunity. We can't wait to see what pumpkins you come up with!!
The Lions Club will be conducting very basic vision screenings all week at NPES. This is something they do every year for preschool and kindergarten students.
Save the date for our Fall Family Literacy Night - it's a Brown Bear, Brown Bear night! We will have many fun activities including free food, Bingo, a storywalk, obstacle course, the Teddy Bear Mobile bus (like Build-a-Bear), crafts, free books and more! The event is October 22nd from 6:00-7:30 PM.
Nursing pathway students from the Hardin County Schools EC3 program will be conducting a teddy bear health clinic for kindergarten students on Friday. Students should bring a teddy bear or similar stuffed animal to school on Friday in backpacks for this event.
Report cards will be sent home with kindergarten students on Friday. I have shared a graphic (below) that highlights the academic and adaptive skills your student should have mastered after the first quarter of the school year. It is very important to review this list and consider how your child is progressing in relation to this typical/expected progress. We know all students learn and grow and different rates. We also know that some of our Tiny Trojans have identified unique or special needs and we are proud of ALL the progress our students make. However, for most students, early intervention and helping your student close any gaps is a critical step to take at this point in the school year. If your child's teacher is concerned, he or she will contact you. However, you can always reach out to your child's teacher or the administration as well. We are all happy to help and support your student.
If we can support your family or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to contact our office (or me directly at laurabeth.hayes@hardin.kyschools.us).

Our book fair will also be open the night of our family event (the 22nd). It's a highlight of the school year for sure!

Week At-a-Glance
Keep up with the School Buzz!
Here's our week at a glance!
North Park Reading Tree
Help add leaves to our tree!
We have a special painted tree in our cafeteria called our "Reading Tree." We add paper leaves to this tree when students read a book at home with family! We get excited to see how many leaves are added to the tree each month. Additionally, students earn a special sticker (like the kind at the doctor's office) each month. They LOVE collecting these seasonal stickers and adding their leaves to the tree. Paper copies of the leaves will go home the first full week of school. You can also print them using the file below. Send in your completed leaves and let's fill our tree for August!
Halloween Costumes
Students may wear costumes on Halloween to North Park. Please note these costumes should NOT be scary and no masks covering the face are permitted. Please do not send anything that is gory or violent.
Pumpkin Patch Trips
Preschool will be attending Thomas Dairy Farm on Wednesday, October 28th and Kindergarten will be visiting Crawford Farms on Tuesday OR Wednesday, October 27th/28th. Look for more info to come from your child's teacher.
Fire Safety
The Radcliff Fire Department will be visiting NPES classrooms at the end of the month for Fire Safety Prevention Month!
