From the Principal: Campus Safety
Our school community is off to a wonderful start, and keeping our learning environment bright, happy, and safe for every child is at the heart of everything we do. To help us protect our students while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere, please keep these friendly guidelines in mind:
• Visiting Campus: We love having involved families! When visiting, please drop by the main office first to sign in and grab a visitor badge to wear while you are on campus. If you would like to visit a classroom, please reach out to me in advance so we can get that pre-approved and planned smoothly.
• Playground & Field Access: To keep our outdoor play areas safe and dedicated entirely to our students, our playground and fields are reserved exclusively for school use from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• Student Pick-Up: During afternoon dismissal, please wait on the sidewalk or remain in the drive-thru lane so we can safely guide your children to you.
Thank you so much for partnering with us to keep our school community safe, warm, and secure for everyone!

Making the Most of the Sunshine!
We have been taking full advantage of this wonderful weather across campus! Here is a quick look at how our students and staff are enjoying the outdoors this week:
Courtyard Dining: Our 6th graders have loved taking their lunch breaks outside in the courtyard. To help even more students enjoy eating in the fresh air, we have ordered additional picnic tables for the area!
Outdoor PE: Physical Education classes have taken advantage of the clear skies, setting up their activity stations outside so students can stay active while enjoying the sunshine.
It has been fantastic seeing our campus so lively and energized outdoors!

Community Helpers Visit the Fire Station!
Our K–1 Community Helpers enrichment class had an exciting hands-on learning experience this week with a visit to our local fire station! Students learned what to do if a smoke detector goes off in the middle of the night, including how to escape safely by staying low where the air is clearer and getting out of the house quickly and safely. They also learned how our volunteer firefighters prepare to respond when an emergency happens in our community.
One of the highlights was watching “Firefighter Doug” transform from a regular person into a fully geared-up firefighter! As he put on his boots, protective overalls, coat, helmet, and breathing mask, students learned how each piece of special equipment is designed to help keep firefighters safe and protect them from the heat, smoke, and other dangers they may encounter during a fire. Students even got to try on a firefighter’s coat themselves and experience just how heavy and different the protective gear feels! They also got to see and hear what a firefighter looks and sounds like while breathing through a mask—helping them understand that even though a fully geared-up firefighter may look or sound different, underneath all that equipment is someone there to help!
Students also saw how first responders check heart rate and other vital signs, explored the fire trucks, took a ride around town, and even had the chance to spray the fire hose from the top of the truck!
A huge thank you to our local volunteer firefighters for giving our students such a memorable experience and for all they do to keep our community safe!

Online Safety: A Conversation Worth Having
As parents, one of the best things we can do to help keep our children safe online is to keep having conversations with them about what they see, who they interact with, and the choices they make online. Technology and social media are constantly changing, so regular conversations can help children recognize potential risks and make good decisions before a problem occurs.
A few important reminders to talk about with your children:
- Not everything online is real. AI-generated photos, videos, voices, and other “deepfakes” can look and sound very convincing.
- Don't communicate with people online that you don't know in the real world. Someone online may not be who they claim to be.
- Never share personal information online. This includes your address, phone number, passwords, school information, location, or other private details.
- Think twice before participating in social media trends or challenges. Just because “everyone is doing it” doesn't mean it's safe or appropriate.
- If you are being harassed, bullied, threatened, or pressured online, tell someone. Don't try to handle it alone. Talk to a parent, trusted adult, teacher, or school staff member.
- Remember: once something is posted online, you should assume it can be there forever. Screenshots, downloads, and shares can make something impossible to completely take back.
- If you need help or support, you can also reach out to Washington's HearMeWA program through its website, app, or text-based support options.
Most importantly, remind your children that they can always come to you when something online makes them uncomfortable, confused, or concerned. Keeping the conversation open is one of the most important tools we have for helping our kids stay safe online.
