A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Now that Term 1 is complete, and as the school year progresses, we continue to see growth in your child(ren)’s learning. We look forward to our Second Term in which the students are encouraged to continue to strive to be the best that they can be. We thank you all for your continued cooperation, committment and support for your children's learning. A fulsome education depends on a positive trusting relationship between the school and family, and we are proud of the community that we have here at St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School (CES).

In February, we turn our focus on Canadian Black History where we learn about and honour the many contributions made by Black Canadians throughout our country's history. We recognize that black history is Canadian history, and we do look forward to the many great learning opportunities we will have this month as we celebrate black excellence and trailblazers.

On Monday, February 16th we will be celebrating the Family Day holiday so schools will be closed. We hope that you will have a long weekend full of blessings to enjoy with your loved ones.

On February 18th, we recognize Ash Wednesday as we begin the liturgical season of Lent. We are hopeful for you and your family to find peaceful opportunities for reflection and spiritual growth throughout this incredibly important season in our faith. As we turn inward, and self-reflect during these upcoming 40 days of Lent, we are ever-mindful of the examples set by Jesus Christ as we journey in His footsteps.

Viola Davis

In 1946, Viola Davis Desmond was forcibly removed from a Glace Bay, Nova Scotia movie theater and arrested when she attempted to sit in the “Whites Only” main floor section of the segregated theatre. She refused to sit in the balcony, which was designated for Blacks. Viola Desmond has often been referred to as Canada’s Rosa Parks .

Celebrating Black History Month 2026

In February, we recognize Black History Month, honouring the significant contributions and achievements of Black communities. "During Black History Month, people in Canada celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country." (Government of Canada).

As a Catholic community, we are called to live in solidarity. Living in solidarity means taking the time to learn from one another and to honour the stories of our families in Christ. The Honourable Jean Augustine reminds us that, "if we are to build a kind of society that's fair and just and equitable and inclusive, I must know your story, just as you must know my story."

Black history and heritage must be woven into the fabric of our resources, becoming an integral part of learning as Black history is Canadian history. In February and beyond, students will engage in learning and explore resources that will deepen their understanding of the contributions of Black Canadians both past and present, reflecting on and celebrating the many stories of joy and achievements.

The 2026 theme, Black History 365: Inspiring Hope - Reclaiming Narratives, encourages us to move beyond a single month of recognition and embrace a continuous, year-round commitment to truth, representation, and celebration. This theme identifies a call to action and an opportunity to reclaim narratives that centre the voices of Black individuals and communities, and to offer counter narratives that reflect the depth, diversity, and richness of Black history and heritage. By uplifting these stories, we offer a chance for students to remember the narratives that depict the presence of Black communities across Canada, to redefine the narratives that have been told through a narrow lens and to rejoice in the narratives that showcase truth, joy and resistance.

This theme aligns with the 2026 theme for Catholic Education Week: Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness where we have been invited to rediscover the theme of hope and the meaning of hope in our lives.

Rooted in the virtues of Hope and Respect, students at St. Timothy CES will engage in learning and activities that celebrate the rich history, contributions and achievements of Black communities.

It’s a promise to help protect our planet by making greener choices every day! Last month, our students had an opportunity to sign their name around St. Timothy's ECO Code, which will be displayed in our hallway, reminding our school community that we are choosing to STAY GREEN!

⚽ INTERMEDIATE GIRLS' & BOYS' SOCCER TEAMS

In January, the Intermediate Girls Soccer Team participated in the Mississauga South Indoor Soccer Tournament at Paramount. The girls showed excellent teamwork and skill as they dominated the round robin stage and automatically made it to the semifinals. Their determination allowed them to advance to the finals, which ended in a tie with a very exciting penalty shoot-out. With some great shots and great saves from our goalie, our Titans won the shoot-out and brought home gold medals and a championship banner for our school.

Not to be outdone, the Intermediate Boys' Soccer Team was undefeated in every game on their way to the finals with a very impressive “Goals for” total of +18 and “goals against” of 3 at the end of the round robin. The excellent skills, teamwork, determination and perseverance demonstrated by the boys led them to bringing back another Mississauga South Family of Schools banner for St. Timothy!

Both teams also participated in an invitational tournament in Brampton at SaveMax stadium, with the girls team finishing in third place out of 24 schools and the boys team taking home the championship win once again. Congratulations to both of our Intermediate soccer teams. We are all so proud and happy for you! GO TITANS!

⚽ JUNIOR GIRLS' & BOYS' SOCCER TEAMS

The Junior Girls’ and Boys' soccer teams participated in the Our Lady of Providence invitational tournament at SaveMax stadium in Brampton.

The girls played with fierce determination every minute of every one of their three games, resulting in one win and two losses.

The Junior Boys’ soccer team won three games and tied one in the round robin phase which allowed them to advance to the quarter-final round, where their run ended in a hard-fought game.

All our junior soccer team members should be proud of their efforts and the positive way they represented our school! Your coaches applaud your grit and determination and you are all winners in their eyes. GO TITANS!

THANK YOU to the staff members who volunteered to coach our soccer teams, and thank you to the parents of the players for their support and encouragement!

Denise Wild's Sewing Studio is coming to our school with a specialty program like you’ve never seen before — a dynamic, engaging sewing workshop that breaks the creative mold! The Sewing Studio’s stereotype-busting mentors guide each student through success, teaching Grades 1-8 students how to sew with a sewing machine. Each child will gain confidence, develop their growth mindset, and complete a project from start to finish while being motivated and inspired. Not only does sewing get you hands-on and help you flex your creative muscles, it also helps you feel joyful, mindful, and focused. Winter Weather Plan and Appropriate Attire

The board policy states that when the temperature or equivalent wind chill temperature is minus 25 degrees Celsius or lower, children shall be kept indoors. The amount of time outdoors should be reduced for children when the temperature is -20 degrees Celsius or colder. Weather conditions are reviewed daily and decisions around outdoor play and length of recesses are determined. Please ensure your children are appropriately dressed for outdoor play with hats, scarves, mittens, boots and snow pants/snowsuit. On wet and slushy days, students often get wet; therefore, it is helpful if students have a change of clothing (e.g. pants, top, socks) that can be left at school or in their backpack as it is often difficult for parents to leave work to bring an extra set of clothes. All students must have indoor close-toed footwear, and outdoor boots.

T - is it True?

H - is it Helpful?

I - is it Inspiring?

N - is it Necessary?

K - is it Kind?

The students at St. Timothy School are taking a stance and THINKING before they speak. Please use these strategies at home, as to support the learning at school. Together we continue to support student well-being and model the virtues of our faith.

W.W.J.D.

WWJD is a popular acronym that is a simple yet powerful reminder to always act with love, compassion, and kindness toward others.

The idea behind it is that anytime you encounter a situation, you are to ask yourself, What Would Jesus Do? Then, that is what you are supposed to do.

So next time you’re faced with a difficult decision or encounter someone who may not see eye-to-eye with you, remember WWJD. Let’s choose love over hate and understanding over division. Together, let’s make this world a better place one small action at a time – and treat others as Jesus would and as we would want to be treated!

VOLUNTEERS - CBC with VSS

Attention to Parent Volunteers - TRIPS, SCHOOL EVENTS, etc.

Here is a great chance to help out at the school. A Criminal Background Check (CBC) is required for all volunteers (Annual Declarations for existing Volunteers).

Criminal Background Check must be with a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) - Level 3.

If you wish to accompany your child on a field trip as a supervisor or volunteer at the school, it is advisable to get your CBC-VSS early in the school year, as there is a processing time.

A letter may be obtained from the school to indicate that you are volunteering at St. Timothy C.E.S

Custody of Children

On occasion, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit with their child or take their child out of school. In order to assist us in making correct decisions in order to serve and protect each child, we ask that you make the office aware of any legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions that have been agreed upon. Please note that we require legal documentation of these arrangements, not merely a note from a parent.

Late Arrival

We continue to have many students who are arriving late to school on a regular basis. A reminder that the school day begins at 9:00 AM with outdoor supervision beginning at 8:45 AM. Students arriving late to school not only miss out on instructional time and morning routines, but can result in interruption and distraction when arriving late in the classroom.

Arriving on time for school is helping to build important life skills for your child in the area of effective time-management and consistent routines - all of which will have a positive impact on them as they grow and develop. Please ensure that your child is arriving at school on-time. Thank you for your co-operation.
