Read Across America!
Sheryl Faye Presents Queen Elizabeth
Principal Update 3/3/25
Good Morning Memorial Families,
March certainly came in like a lion on Saturday. My midday walk featured sunny skies and 50 degrees, while my evening at Gillette Stadium for the NE Revolution home opener had some snow, some rain, a lot of wind, and a lot of cold. It was a good reminder that the weather is anything but predictable here in New England, especially during the change of seasons. Regardless, the days ARE getting longer, and we turn the clocks ahead this coming weekend, so longer and brighter days are on the way.
I want to thank so many people for an amazing end to our week last week. First, thank you to Leah Hagen and Karlyn Gale for organizing our annual Read Across America celebration. We had guest readers from many community members, including Upton's new Chief of Police, Nicholas Palmieri. Thank you to everyone who read to our classrooms, thank you to Crystal Maloney and Kevin Vaillancourt for getting into costume to entertain the students as they arrived in the morning, and thank you to Meghan Carmichael for capturing photos throughout the morning.
Secondly, a great thanks to the Memorial PTO and the Upton Cultural Council for supporting the return of Sheryl Faye, who portrays historical women. This year, she put on a wonderful show featuring Queen Elizabeth. Her use of multimedia, many costume changes, and her ability to truly get into character captivates our students and the adults who have the opportunity to watch her perform. We are so grateful to everyone who made her visit possible and look forward to her return next year for another performance.
We have our Inspired Learning Day this Thursday, rescheduled from a snowy day in February. Our students will have the opportunity to engage in learning that they chose, with a multi-age group of students and a teacher that they might not be with on a typical day. We will begin the day with an all school meeting and end the day with some reflection on how we engaged in deeper learning throughout the day. Be sure to ask your child about how they used their Portrait of a Learner Superpowers throughout the day!
Have a terrific week!
Warmly,
Wendy
