November deLacey Update
November 2, 2026

School News
We cannot believe October has already come and gone! It was a busy month, with so many exciting events and activities. We had our second spirit day, and enjoyed seeing so many of our students wearing their best superhero gear. All of our classes got to visit our deLacey Pumpkin Patch and hand-select a pumpkin to keep. Carpentersville Middle School Beta Club students walked over and visited classrooms to read books and spend time with our students. Finally, we hosted our Trunk-or-Treat family night, which is always a great time. We are excited looking forward to November and all of the excitement a new month will bring. We hope you will join us this month for our Literacy Night on the 19th and conferences on the 23rd and 24th.

Conferences will occur on Monday, November 23 from 11:00 AM- 8:00 PM and Tuesday, November 24 from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
You have from Friday, November 6 at 10AM through Friday, November 20 at 12 noon to
schedule your conference. Information about scheduling conferences will be sent home with your student in their backpack and will be arriving via email later this week. Please reach out with any questions or if you need help scheduling your conferences.
Attendance
Our goal is to keep at least 53% of our students "chronically present," meaning they miss fewer than 2 days of school per month on average. Currently, we are exceeding that goal with 65% of our students maintaining consistent attendance!
Thank you for helping your child build great attendance habits by sending them to school every day they are healthy. You play a vital role in creating routines that will set them up for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Please see the resource below from Attendance Works for tips on keeping your child healthy and in school.
Literacy Night and Community Resource Fair
Join us for oceans of fun at our upcoming Family Literacy Night and Community Resource Fair, here at deLacey from 5:00-7:00 on Thursday, November 19th.
At this event, families will be able to participate in literacy based activities with their student, visit the Book Fair, listen to guest readers, and visit our community resource fair. At the community resource fair, connect with local organizations such as the D300 Food Pantry, NISRA, The Place for Children with Autism, local libraries, and more.
We hope to see you there!
Nurse's Corner
Head lice are a common issue in school-aged children, especially during times when students are in close contact through play, group activities, or shared materials. While lice are a nuisance, they do not spread disease and can be effectively managed with early detection and treatment.
What Parents Should Know
Head lice spread through direct head-to-head contact. They do not jump or fly.
Cleanliness is not a factor. Anyone can get lice, regardless of hygiene or home environment.
Lice are small and fast-moving. Nits (eggs) are easier to spot—tiny, white or gray, and firmly attached to the hair shaft near the scalp.
Signs to Look For
Persistent itching, especially behind the ears or at the nape of the neck
Visible nits that do not brush off easily
Adult lice, which are about the size of a sesame seed
If Lice Are Found
Begin treatment promptly with an approved lice treatment or as advised by your healthcare provider.
Use a fine-tooth comb daily to remove nits.
Wash pillowcases, hats, and recently worn clothing in hot water and dry on high heat.
Vacuum sofas, carpets, or car seats—extensive cleaning is not necessary.
Please notify the school nurse, so we can provide support and help reduce the spread at school.
Prevention Tips
Check your child’s hair regularly, especially if you receive a class notification.
Encourage children to avoid head-to-head contact during play.
Remind them not to share hats, brushes, helmets, hair accessories, or headphones.
Tie long hair back in braids or ponytails to reduce risk.
Staying informed and checking your child’s hair regularly can greatly reduce the chance of lice spreading. If you have any questions or need assistance with identifying or managing head lice, please reach out—We are here to help. : )

Birth-3 program
“Parenting is hard work… let us be your partner”
Did you know District 300 has a free Birth- 3 parent support program available to qualified families living within district boundaries?
Our program uses the Parents As Teachers Curriculum to provide families who are pregnant or parenting a child under the age of 3 with fun activities, parent education, resources, and support in the comfort of your home or in our early childhood classroom. In addition enrolled participants receive access to playgroups, a monthly literacy night (free books!!), and parent education events that include the whole family.
Babies don’t come with a manual so if you are looking for a little extra support and would like to know more about how to qualify you can call 224-484-2331 or email us at Sonja.russell@d300.org. You may also fill out a contact form and someone will reach out with more information.
We would love to partner with you!
Resources
We have created a folder that will have information on resources available. Please let us know if there is something you would like more information on.
If you believe your child has lost an item, please reach out to your child's teacher. Thank you.
