General Information
Cooper Elementary Newsletter
At Cooper, we want our families to feel welcome and connected, and to have easy access to important dates and information. Be sure to check your in-box on the 1ST AND 3RD THURSDAY of each month for our Cooper Elementary Newsletter! In it, you will find photos of what is happening at Cooper, a calendar of important events, community and school related activities, reminders, links to important sites/surveys/registration forms, and notes from our principal, Mrs. Stariha, and our counselor, Ms. Thompson. It will be sent out via email and will also be shared to our Cooper Elementary Facebook Page. If you aren't already following our Facebook page, the link is included below!

Cooper Families,
We are continuously looking for ways to improve at Cooper! Below are some links to important sites/account access for your convenience.
Communication about attendance and grades is a top priority each year at Cooper. To help facilitate communication, Cooper uses an online grade book called PowerSchool that will continue with your child through high school. Our attendance is recorded in PowerSchool. We continue to focus on the importance of attendance in order to reduce the percentage of truant students. A PowerSchool parent account will allow you to check your student’s progress in school including grades, lunch balance, as well as their attendance. If you already have a PowerSchool Account created you can continue to use your active account. Under Account Preferences you may add your student using the access ID and password in this email.
Please see the attached links for help or reach out to our office if you have any questions or need assistance logging into your account.

Making Connections
Making connections is an important part of development and relationship building at any age, but especially during formative childhood years. Friends and connections can help us navigate through challenges, celebrate wins, and strengthen our decision-making. Making connections helps kids develop emotionally especially increasing empathy and caring for others. Peer relationships help children learn team-building and problem-solving skills. As children become comfortable with peers, whether that be in school or on a team, they are able to better collaborate with others.
Connections with the adults at school is also incredibly important. School belonging, or feeling connected at school, has many positive mental health benefits for kids. Those include:
- Improve academic performance
- Increase engagement in schoolwork
- Increase feelings of happiness and self-confidence
- Decrease feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression
- Decrease risky behaviors like substance use or violence
The staff at Cooper spends a lot of time at the beginning of the year (and throughout the year) to purposefully build connections with and between students. We then survey all students to see if each child has at least one adult they feel connected to and trust. The past two years we have had 99% of students say they have at least one adult they feel connected to at Cooper, and the vast majority feel connections with more than one adult!
Early Childhood
Attendance Matters
September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Missing school adds up. Every tardy, every absence, every minute counts. Strong attendance sets the foundation for success. Keep your student on track: prioritize being in class, on time, every day. Attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Build this habit early so your child learns right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will not only help them be more successful in school but those habits carry with them into college and at work.
