SOAR
I am safe. I am on task. I am accountable. I am respectful.
OCTOBER 2026
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lincoln Elementary Families,
What a wonderful first month of school we have had! It has been so exciting to see our students learning, growing, making new friends, and becoming part of our school community. Thank you for helping your children get off to such a great start!
Throughout September, we have been practicing and learning what it means to SOAR at Lincoln:
S – Safe
O – On Task
A – Accountable
R – Respectful
We are seeing our students put these expectations into action in their classrooms, on the playground, in the lunchroom, and throughout our school. We will continue to practice and celebrate what it means to SOAR all year long!
October is going to be a fun and busy month at Lincoln! We will celebrate Homecoming, recognize National Bullying Prevention Month, and have many special learning opportunities and activities throughout the month. We will spend time talking with students about kindness, inclusion, friendship, and how we can all help make Lincoln a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
A quick reminder that Homecoming Parade Day on October 2 will be an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 p.m. Please make sure your family has a plan for the early dismissal.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Lincoln Elementary community. I am grateful for the partnership we have with our families and look forward to all the fun and learning October will bring!
Let’s keep SOARING, Lincoln!
Warmly,
Allison Sweeney

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR ALL
Faribault Public Schools, together with the Community Action Center of Faribault and the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce, is partnering with local businesses this August and September to support its School Supplies for All (SSFA) initiative—an effort that ensures every in‑person student in Pre‑K through 8th grade begins the school year with the supplies they need to learn and thrive. With multiple round‑up campaigns underway, residents have several opportunities to contribute to a program that directly benefits approximately 2,000 Faribault children.
The SSFA program addresses a significant need: 68% of Faribault Public School students qualify for educational benefits, making back‑to‑school shopping a financial strain for many families. To reduce that burden, the district asks families to contribute $35 per student, but this optional payment is fully waived for those who qualify. Community donations—especially through round‑up campaigns—help close the gap and ensure every child receives the same high‑quality materials.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF FARIBAULT PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
DISMISSAL ROUTINE
Dear Lincoln Families,
As we continue with our regular afternoon pick-up procedures, we want to provide a quick reminder of the expectations that help keep dismissal safe and efficient. We appreciate everyone’s help in following them consistently.
Student Car Pick-Up Expectations
1. Pull up to the curb by Door 1.
When picking up your child, please travel south on Lincoln Ave NW and pull up to the curb by Door 1. Please make sure your car sign is clearly visible. If you need a car sign, please let a staff member know.2. Please stay in your vehicle.
Remaining in your vehicle helps us keep the pick-up line moving safely and efficiently.
3. Students will wait in the Link.
Students will wait in the Link (media center) until their family arrives. A staff member will record each family’s name on a spreadsheet. When your name appears, students will be lined up and escorted outside to their cars.
Once your child is safely in your vehicle, please slowly and carefully pull back into traffic.
Important Reminders
Please continue traveling south after picking up your child.
U-turns are not permitted and are not safe during pick-up.
Students who are walking home will exit through Door 18.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and for helping us keep dismissal safe and efficient for all of our students and families.
If you have any questions, concerns, comments, or suggestions, please contact me.
Thank you,
Allison Sweeney

FROM YOUR SOCIAL WORKERS
We all want our students to succeed at school. One thing that can have the biggest impact on a student’s success at school is attendance. Research has shown that Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused and unexcused absences —can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. We understand that there are many reasons students are missing school, but if there is something we can do to assist you in getting your child to school everyday, please reach out.
Beginning of the Year Attendance Letters - these will be sent home with your child next week also. English Spanish Somali

Taming Elementary Screen Time: Better Sleep, Better School Days
- The School Day Impact: Elementary kids need 9 to 12 hours of sleep, and late-night screen use directly triggers next-day school fatigue, meltdowns, and focus issues.
- The Melatonin Delay: The blue light from tablets and gaming consoles tricks their growing brains into thinking it is daytime, delaying the natural urge to sleep by up to two hours.
- The 1-Hour Digital Curfew: Establish a strict rule to power off all devices at least one hour before bedtime to let their nervous systems calm down.
- Bedroom-Free Devices: Keep tablets, Chromebooks, and TVs completely out of the bedroom at night to eliminate the temptation of "just one more video."
- Healthy Swaps: Replace high-stimulation video games or videos with relaxing, screen-free habits like reading a chapter book together or listening to an audiobook.

KEEPING OUR SCHOOLS SAFE
Keeping Our Schools Safe with the Standard Response Protocol
Faribault Public Schools staff recently trained with the I Love U Guys Foundation on the Standard Response Protocol (SRP)—a nationally recognized safety plan used in schools across the country. The SRP gives students and staff simple, clear actions to follow during an emergency.
Here are the five actions your child may practice at school:
Hold – Stay in the classroom, where learning continues, and keep hallways clear until the “All Clear” is given.
Secure – Get inside, lock outside doors, and continue learning in a safe, controlled setting.
Lockdown – Lock doors, turn out the lights, get out of sight. Used if there’s a threat inside the school.
Evacuate – Leave the building with staff and go to a safe location.
Shelter – Move to a safe place inside the building and use safety strategies for severe weather or other hazards.
Practicing these steps helps ensure that if an emergency happens, every student and staff member knows what to do—keeping our schools safe and prepared.
HEALTH OFFICE REMINDER
