πŸ’¦ Word Splash Connections πŸ’¦ Word Splash Connections

zoom_out_map

Encourage students to connect with the material they’ve learned by using key vocabulary or concepts to draw meaningful conclusions.

Approximate Time: 5-10 Minutes

How To/Steps:

  1. Identify 8-9 important vocabulary words or concepts from the lesson.
  2. Create a β€œword splash” by displaying these words in various sizes and fonts using WordArt. You can arrange this on a Google Slide, on chart paper, utilize ABCYa Word Cloud generator, or even quickly jot it on the board.
  3. Challenge students to use as many of these words as possible to:
    • Predict or conclude insights related to the content.
    • Write one or two sentences.
    • Create a poem, rap, song, or drawing that illustrates their understanding.

Tips:

  • Swap out some words for images to make it more engaging.

Variations:

  • Use this activity as a warm-up at the beginning of a lesson or unit. Display the word splash without a central theme, and ask students to infer the main topic.
  • Once students are familiar with this strategy, encourage them to create their own word splashes and share their interpretations with the class.
