Principal Message

Viking Families,

As we wrap up the last week of September, we want to thank you for your continued partnership and support. Our students have been working hard, learning new skills, and making great progress because of the strong connection between home and school.

October is a busy and exciting month filled with learning opportunities, special events, and campus activities. Please be sure to check communication from your child's teacher and our campus regularly so you don't miss important dates and information.

As we head into October, we encourage all students to:

  • Attend school every day and arrive on time.
  • Continue reading at home each evening.
  • Come prepared and ready to learn.
  • Show our Viking values of respect, responsibility, and kindness.

Thank you for all you do to support our students and staff. Together, we will make October a month full of success, growth, and great memories!

As a reminder, attendance is important, and instruction begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. We understand that situations arise, but every minute in the classroom matters. Likewise, early pickups before 2:30 p.m. disrupt learning and cause students to miss valuable instructional time.

Please also help us keep our students safe during arrival, dismissal, and school events.

Have a wonderful week, Vikings! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

With gratitude,

Dr. Melissa Martinez
Principal

Bike Rodeo 2026

Woodlake Elementary

Physical Education

We are excited to be having a Bike โ€œSafetyโ€ Rodeo for K-5th grades! It will be held on Thursday Oct, 8, during their Specials time. It will take place on the blacktop outside of the gym. The purpose of the bike rodeo is to encourage bicycle safety. Students will be scored on a bike inspection (possibly 100 total points) and on the bike skills course (possibly 100 points). The top two winners in each grade (1stโ€“ 5th) will have the opportunity to move on to our District Bike Rodeo to be held on Wednesday, October 21 at D. W. Rutledge Stadium. There will be winners in Kinder at the campus level only.

We will have a bike drop-off on Wednesday Oct, 7 in the gym between 3:30-4:30pm. Bikes cannot be dropped off before 3:30. Students will park their bikes in the designated area in the gym. Please label your studentโ€™s bike and helmet with their first and last name, teacher, and grade. Students are responsible for their own bikes. Woodlake Elementary will not be held accountable for anything that may happen to any bikes during this time. Bike pick up will be on Thursday, October 8 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. (Bikes Cannot be picked up before 3:30)

Only two-wheeled bikes will be permitted (no tricycles, scooters, or skateboards). Training wheels will be allowed, because they will have a huge advantage, 20 points will be deducted. Students must have their own bicycles to participate (no sharing or borrowing). A helmet is strongly recommended but not required. Riders whose bicycle fails to score 100 pts on the inspection may be awarded up to 10 pts by having a helmet.

The following YouTube video will be shown during class to show the students how bike rodeo works. You may watch the video by scanning the QR Code to the right. If you have any questions, please call Coach Hernandez@ 662-2220 or email me at ehernandez@judsonisd.org.

Happy Biking,

Coach Hernandez

Bike Rodeo Scoring:

Bike inspection (possible 100 points) โ€“ we will look for the following:

- front light that can be turned on and off - bell or horn

- red reflector in the back

- chain guard

- brakes

- hand grips

- seat, handlebars, and steering post not loose - tires are pumped up

- helmet (worth 10 bonus points)

*** Most of these items can be found at Wal-Mart, Target, Academy, or a bike shop

Bike rodeo skills (possible 100 points) consist of the following (the YouTube video explains and demonstrates these):

1. Balance โ€“ Ride as slowly as possible between two lines 3โ€™ apart, rider should try for 30 seconds or longer

2. Steering โ€“ Ride in between two lines 8 inches apart.

3. Circle โ€“ One trip around the circle at a comfortable speed.

4. Obstacle Course โ€“ weaving in and out of cones.

Dismissal Traffic Changes

Woodlake Families,

We will be making significant changes to our arrival and dismissal procedures for the 2026-2027 school year. Please help us ensure the safety of all students by following our traffic plan during arrival and dismissal.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

  1. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will no longer be dismissed from the front of the school. All Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be dismissed through the gym as regular car riders unless they ride the bus, daycare transportation, Adventure Club, or another approved after-school program.

  2. Please have your car rider tag visible during dismissal. For the safety of our students, all vehicles must display the assigned car tag on the dashboard. We also ask that parents remain in their vehicles while in the dismissal lane.

  3. All Pre-K through 5th grade students will be designated as car riders unless otherwise noted as bus riders, daycare riders, Adventure Club participants, or WKPR Church program participants.

  4. Walkers must use the sidewalks and walk home safely. The walker area is not a location for car rider pickup, students will be walked to the designated crosswalk of Lake Bend West and Woodlake Club and Lake Bend East.

  5. There will be no early dismissals after 2:30 p.m. Additionally, walk-up pickups will not be permitted during the dismissal process.

Important Reminder

Please ensure your car rider tag is clearly displayed on your dashboard each day during dismissal.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to provide a safe and efficient dismissal process for all students.

Arrival

ARRIVAL

  • The back gate will open at 6:45am, but regular staff do not arrive until 7am, do not leave students unattended at anytime.
  • Please do not drop off students in the bus lane and staff parking.
  • At arrival please do not park in the car line and walk up to the door, we need to keep the car rider line moving, if your students need help, our staff will help them out of the car
