Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear DRK Families,

As we move further into spring, we are enjoying the many positives that come with the season. Longer days, warmer weather, and more time spent outdoors are bringing a wonderful energy to our school community. It is a time where connection, activity, and a sense of momentum are all very present for our students.

With this seasonal shift, we are asking families to partner with us in reinforcing safe travel to and from school. We have noticed an increase in students taking risks near roadways, particularly when walking, biking, or gathering near bus stops. A quick conversation at home about road safety, awareness, and making thoughtful choices can make a significant difference in keeping all of our students safe.

We also want to take a moment to reaffirm our expectations around personal device use during the school day. Our approach has been a strong point for DRK, and we remain committed to it. Personal devices are not to be used during the school day, and this expectation has not and will not change.

What has been especially encouraging is hearing directly from students that they value this. Many have shared that they prefer school when devices are not a distraction and that it creates a more connected and positive environment for learning and friendships. That is powerful feedback, and it reinforces that this expectation is making a meaningful difference.

As we head into the final months of the school year, we will continue to focus on maintaining the positive, respectful, and inclusive environment that our community has worked so hard to build. Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these important messages at home.

All my best,

Nina Ferguson

We are very excited to announce that we are running our "Bald Falcon" School Fundraiser again this year as we raise money for the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation. This foundation supports the hospital in providing young patients with the treatment they need while also allowing the children's families to be with them during periods of long-term care.

On Friday May 29th, we will gather our entire school together for a special assembly to celebrate our cause as well as our students’ efforts. Some students will be choosing to raise money by fundraising locally, others will also be offering to "go bald" in an effort to raise awareness of this worthy cause. Some students will be donating 10+ inches of hair for the making of wigs for cancer patients.

Over the last 18 years, we have raised over $560,000 as a community!! Amazing!!

Participating students must return a signed permission form to take part. They can pick up this form at our first meeting on Wednesday, April 22nd at lunch in room 205.

We would LOVE involvement from our parents & guardians! You can get involved in various ways:

  • If your child is participating, you can support them as they fundraise and/or prepare them to have their hair cut or shaved
  • You can donate to one of the students or staff that are fundraising! Check out our donation page at tinyurl.com/baldfalcon (participant pages will start showing up at the beginning of May)
  • If you or someone you know has a business that would be willing to donate prizes for participants, you can forward that information on to Amy Gunn at amy.gunn@sd23.bc.ca

If your student is participating this year, they need to bring their signed form back on Wednesday, April 29th.

We can't wait to watch students change the world as they fundraise for such a worthy cause! Go Falcons!!
